  • Getting Ready for Rachel Reeves' Autumn Budget 2025
    Nov 25 2025

The Autumn Budget, set for 26 November 2025, is being delivered by Chancellor Rachel Reeves to address a challenging economic backdrop including weak growth (0.1%), persistent inflation (3.6%), and a significant fiscal gap (£20bn–£30bn).

Since the Chancellor has committed not to raise Income Tax, National Insurance (NI), or VAT, widely rumoured changes focus on wealth, property, and specific tax areas:

Income Tax: Extension of threshold freezes, continuing "fiscal drag".

Property Taxes: Potential "mansion tax" or annual property tax proposals.

Wealth Taxes: Possible increases to Capital Gains Tax (CGT) rates or removal of the CGT uplift on death.

Inheritance Tax (IHT): Rumours include introducing a lifetime cap on tax-free gifts or extending the seven-year rule to ten years.

Landlords: The most significant rumour is the potential extension of National Insurance to rental income.

Taxpayers are advised to update their records and review projections, but crucially, to avoid making major financial decisions based on speculation alone until the confirmed measures are published
