  • Simply Advent - Week Two
    Dec 9 2024

In Luke 1, God chooses Mary, a humble woman from Nazareth, a town of no significance, as his wife. This highlights that God's plans often unfold through the simple and overlooked, and that humility and openness to His will allow us to participate in His divine plan. Mary's favor shows that God's grace is a gift, not something earned, and that God calls us as we are, not because of our qualifications but because of His love.
God's plans can be overwhelming, but His Grace is sufficient. Mary's initial reaction reflects a natural human response to the divine: fear, confusion, and awe. However, she listens attentively and does not shrink from the encounter. We are invited to trust in His grace and discern His voice amid our fears like Mary.
God's promises in Scripture are trustworthy, and in times of uncertainty, we can draw strength from His Word, knowing He is faithful to fulfill what He has spoken. God's plans often exceed human understanding, and Mary's question of wonder and faith leads to deeper faith when we bring them to Him with a trusting heart.
The Holy Spirit empowers believers to fulfill their unique missions, whether in family life, ministry, or other vocations. Mary's response of total surrender, her "fiat," is a model of obedience and trust in God. Her example challenges us to surrender our fears and plans to God, trusting that His ways are better. Mary teaches us to respond to God's will with humility and trust, even when His plans disrupt our own.

  • Simply Advent - Week One
    Dec 2 2024

Welcome to Advent Week One. I am your host, Lisa Fahey.

Today, we begin our journey with the first week of Advent.

When I was writing Simply Advent about five years ago, I focused on virtues that can guide us in simplifying our lives and drawing closer to the Lord.

As part of the structure, I decided to dedicate days five through seven of each week to reflecting on Scripture and the Nativity story. To help us journey toward Christmas, I included a sequence of Scriptures at the end of each week, leading us step by step to Christmas Eve.

**Daily Reflection** Each day, ask yourself:

    - How can I reflect Christ’s renewal in my life today?

    - Am I growing in the Spirit’s attributes?

    - What steps can I take to cultivate peace around me?

    - Where can I replace fear with trust in God’s love?

As you prepare for Christmas, let this Advent be a season of hope, transformation, and peace—a time when you draw nearer to the One who fulfills every promise.
