Throughout this episode, as  with many works of fiction, we see good and bad examples of the  application of principles of preparedness and empowerment. We'll discuss  the practice of "Zombie Preparedness" education, drills, etc. as well  as what the characters in the show did well, or could have done better  as they face the beginning of a new world filled with Zombies.

What is the Paradox of Preparedness? You know you should be better prepared, or should start preparing in case something happens, cos, let's be real, emergencies and disasters happen. Statistically they may have low odds of happening in the next year or the next decade, but they will happen. Because there's no firm date, no deadline, however, far too many of us procrastinate becoming better prepared. It just doesn't seem important enough to be the priority it should be.

That is the Paradox of Preparedness. In this episode we'll talk about this paradox of human behavior, and how to overcome it.

  • Big Earthquake, Bigger Tsunami featuring the Cascadia Subduction Zone
    Jun 30 2022

New studies and understanding paint a new picture of what we can expect from a tsunami after an earthquake. For the worst tsunamis, the wave height may actually be double what was previously predicted. This would have a massive impact on what a tsunami might look like and do, and how coastal areas should prepare for them.

Focus is especially given to the Cascadia Subduction Zone off the coast of the Pacific Northwest because that's what I'm most familiar with and  it was also what was discussed in the relevant writings.

  • Hurricane Safety 10-4-10
    Jun 9 2022

Since we are at the beginning of the 2022 Hurricane Season, Garrett takes a few minutes to discuss hurricane safety. Specifically, he shares 10 Things Not To Do, 4 Effects Of Pollution On Our Hurricane Season (based on a study recently published in the journal "Science Advances"), and 10 To Do Hurricane Safety Tips.

If you live in an area where a hurricane, also known as a typhoon or a tropical cyclone, might strike, it's important that you know how to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your home. Not only should you know what to do, but what not to do.

Preparedness is one of the pillars of the Life, Liberty, And Pursuit Of Happiness Project because you should not only be empowered and able to build your best life, but also to protect the life you build when emergencies or disasters happen so you can thrive.

A summary and discussion of the study on pollution's effects on hurricanes can be found at: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/declines-in-air-pollution-have-made-hurricanes-stronger/
