The advisors take their leave from the Autumn Court and venture into Brightvale, the peasant capital of the Summer Court. Daphne is prettier than Veylorynn. Vey returns to her hometown, Jack wrestles with some inner demons.

The advisors escape explore through the Shadewood, and run from the authorities as fugitives and escape to the Autumn Court. Daphne takes a nap. Vey tries her hand at haggling. Jack disappears into himself, while Cappy comes out to play.
