At MSU, Greek life has had a long-lasting impact on campus society and the connections that students make. However, not every student feels drawn to traditional chapters or sees their goals reflected in these organizations. This has led to the growth of a different type of Greek involvement on campus: professional fraternities and sororities.

These organizations aim to create a community for students who want to develop their careers early in college. Professional chapters offer a structured way to gain those advantages, providing mentorship, skill‑building workshops and networks that extend beyond MSU.

On Jan. 29, over 1,000 MSU students walked out of their classes and gathered at the Hannah Administration building, despite the 10 degree temperature and brutal wind.

The crowd voiced their contempt regarding the recent controversial actions taken by ICE and DHS in Minneapolis.

More than a month after the pepper-spraying and arrest of two black men, Lonnie Smith and Mason Woods, both men have filed federal lawsuits against the city of East Lansing—specifically, Police Chief Jennifer Brown and Officer Anthony Lyon – alleging excessive force and libel for a misleading press release.

On Sunday of MSU Welcome Week, Lonnie Smith attempted to break up an altercation between his friend and East Lansing resident, Mason Woods, and several other young men outside of Dave’s Hot Chicken. After the police were called, Officer Anthony Lyon deployed pepper spray within inches of their faces. Both men were arrested that night.
