Something a little different for Episode 2, Season 2 of If These Walls Could Talk ...

We went studio-side as opposed to a music venue. And what a joy it was to be joined by a man who played in a band with David Bowie, co-founded the newspaper The Voice, wrote Too Close To Heaven (a seminal history of gospel music), and as CEO and owner of the Premises Studio has guided the space through an ever changing socio-political and economic landscape - firmly establishing it as one of London's most cherished working studios and multi-purpose artistic spaces.

Join us as we discuss Nina Simone, Blur's hidden jazz chops, and Pete Doherty's mice, interwoven with the story of a humble gentleman who has lived an extraordinary life.

Ladies & Gentlemen - Welcome to The Premises Studio with its owner Mr. Viv Broughton!

As season 2 of the podcast begins - we delve into the history, heart, and sheer fabulousness of one of London’s most iconic queer venues ...

A space that since its doors opened in the 1860s, has stood proudly at the intersection of resilience, rebellion, and celebration. It’s a place where drag legends have been born, where music and laughter has echoed through generations, and where the LGBTQ+ community has always found refuge and joy - even in the toughest times.

From its legendary performances during the AIDS crisis, when the venue became a lifeline for so many, to the unforgettable stories of artists like Lily Savage lighting up the stage, it's not just a venue - it’s a living monument to queer history and culture.

We are blessed in the company of the man who has done so much help carry that legacy forward - Mr James Lindsay, CEO and Managing Director of the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, a venue which under his leadership continues to evolve while staying true to its roots: as a vibrant, inclusive space that celebrates diversity, creativity, and community spirit.
