• OXFORD v BIRMINGHAM CITY | Reaction. Vicente. Whisper it are Blues looking up now
    Jan 31 2026

Oxford United vs Birmingham City didn't look the most exciting EFL Championship game on paper. But Chris Davies' men, off the back of a 2-0 away win at Sheffield Wednesday, were eyeing back to back wins on their travels. With new signings August Priske and Carlos Vicente in the squad, hopes were growing - and it turned into a very pleasant football match.

In the latest Thoughts On The Blues episode, Simon Brew reacts to the game, considers the car park behind the Oxford goal, and wonders about the rest of the transfer window too.

  • BLUES vs STOKE | Reaction. New players! Two points dropped?
    Jan 26 2026

Birmingham City - suddenly unbeaten in four - took on an injury-ravaged Stoke City in the EFL Championship at St Andrews. And what a game it wasn't! A 1-1 draw, watched by Simon Brew from a slightly different seat.

There was a debut for Ibrahim Osman, a first look at August Priske, and another dash of Jhon Solis. But also a fair few talking points about where this leaves the Blues, whether there was more on offer than we took, and the state of the toilets in the Main Stand. Ah, gotta love a Saturday afternoon at the football...

  • SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY v BLUES | Reaction, blueberries, and - hang on, was that Kyogo?!
    Jan 26 2026

Sheffield Wednesday vs Birmingham City. A battle of teams that aren't very good at playing away from home, and a golden chance for the Blues to finally get three points on the road. What BCFC met was a spirited SWFC team, lining up with Emile Heskey's son on the pitch and Nathan Redmond on the bench.

Blues, meanwhile? Three new signings, none of them starting. A forward line that's not been firing away from home. No sign of a clean sheet. And the small matter of Kyogo.

With the aid of a packet of blueberries, Simon Brew examines just what happened next. Do please like/subscribe/leave nice reviews/spread the word! KRO.

  • SWANSEA CITY v BIRMINGHAM CITY | Reaction, thoughts - and an actually decent away performance!
    Jan 26 2026

Birmingham City's wretched away form suggested that an away trip to Swansea City - with their great home form - was not what was required. With Keshi Anderson and Lyndon Dykes leaving in midweek, and injuries rife, the Blues squad looked thing. And a subs bench for the Championship match with U21 players pointed to part of the problem.

Oh, and we're rubbish away. Usually.

BUT! This is new Blues (again), and Simon Brew reflects on some welcome progress ahead of matches against Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke City...

  • CAMBRIDGE v BIRMINGHAM CITY reaction | The magic of the FA Cup? And a Kyogo goal...
    Jan 26 2026

It's FA Cup third round weekend, and EFL Championship residents The Blues found themselves drawn away at a misty Cambridge United. It was at the end of a week where BCFC had defeated Coventry City, and where speculation was rife around the future of Kyogo. Plus, injuries, players on their way out... changing times at Birmingham City.

  • BIRMINGHAM V COVENTRY | Reaction. Shock. Surprise. Now: let this be the turning point.
    Jan 26 2026

Three days ago: doom and gloom. Chris Davies out. The Birmingham City project is doomed.

Today: we beat the league leaders. We've got a new left back. Marvin Ducksh and Lewis Koumas scored! Chris Davies in.

The fickle life of a football fan laid bare, as The Blues responded in the best possible way to their mauling at Watford, by going toe to toe with EFL Championship leaders Coventry City at St Andrews (at, obviously, Knighthead Park.)

Turned out to be quite a day, this. Simon Brew shares his thoughts on a game he watched in, er, quite an unexpected place.

  • WATFORD v BIRMINGHAM CITY | New Year's Day debacle - the worst away performance since the last one
    Jan 26 2026

Uh-oh. One month after Birmingham City beat Watford in the EFL Championship, the reverse fixture comes around with the teams in very different states. An injury and suspension-ravaged Blues turned up and stepped onto the pitch - but then allowed Watford to run rampant. Let's just say Elton John was happier than Tom Wagner.

Simon Brew reacts to the result and performance, and shares a few ironing tips too. Please like and subscribe. Please pray for an away win soon.

  • BIRMINGHAM V SOUTHAMPTON | Reaction video, delayed by the referee standing in the way
    Jan 26 2026

Birmingham City and Southampton came together again for the second time in a month, with the Saints' 3-1 cruise over Blues still fresh in the memory. Chris Davies has found himself under pressure in the BCFC dugout, with wins suddenly hard to come by. So it was back to St Andrews (at Knighthead Park) as much out of hope than expectation.

Simon Brew (insta: simon.brew) reflects on a game that, well, turned on one decision in particular. An EFL match where Kyogo finally got a start. Where Blues got their third red card in a row. And there's much to talk about.
