 In the autumn of 2009, Luna spent three nights house-sitting a crumbling Victorian on Hemlock Lane in the town of Marrow, Wisconsin. The owner, a retired archivist named Mrs. Corso, had warned her about the old rotary phone in the attic: it wasn't connected to any line. But on the second night, it rang. And the voice on the other end knew Luna's name. What follows is a story about a house that remembers too much, a phone line that shouldn't exist, and the woman on the other end who has been calling for sixty years. Luna doesn't know why she was chosen to answer. She only knows that now, sometimes, when her own phone is off the hook... she hears breathing.
