On a frozen January night in 2017, in the town of Gravenhurst, a 73-year-old woman named Miriam Poole drove a rusted Ford pickup to the back door of Barlow's Funeral Home. She carried a cardboard box containing a pair of wire-rimmed glasses, a stainless steel watch, and a worn leather wallet. She claimed these were her husband's effects from the crematorium, except her husband had been buried intact in Riverview Cemetery three weeks prior. Luna recounts the visitation that followed — the damp heat of the prep room, the odor of old tobacco rising from the leather, the strange weight of the box when no one was looking. This is a story about grief looking for a shape, and about the things the dead leave behind when they haven't finished with us.
