Good afternoon. Nebraska. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside right now and you're looking at 53 degrees. Feels nice, right? Don't get too comfortable. Because the next 36 hours are going to be wild. In the next 24 hours. This afternoon, we've got a temperature split worth noting. Down in Lincoln, you'll hit 65 degrees with breezy south winds gusting to 21 miles an hour. Omaha tops out at 63. But head out west to the Panhandle and you're looking at 70 degrees under partly sunny skies. That's the calm before the storm. Tonight after 9 P.M., rain and thunderstorms roll into eastern Nebraska. A few storms could drop small hail overnight, especially along and east of Highway 183. Rain peaks around 6 A.M. Friday with near-certain chances. Western Nebraska sees scattered showers developing after 8 P.M., but your story takes a dramatic turn. Friday brings the real drama. Eastern and southeast Nebraska stay mild — highs near 69 to 70 degrees — with rain continuing through early afternoon. But here's where it gets interesting. A cold front slams into western Nebraska Friday afternoon. Rain flips to snow by 2 P.M. Temperatures crash to 43 degrees with north winds gusting to 35 miles an hour. Snow showers continue Friday night with 1 to 3 inches possible — locally heavier in bands. Lows plunge to 22 degrees. Saturday brings relief. Sunshine returns statewide with highs rebounding to the low to mid 50s. Sunday through Tuesday looks gorgeous — sunny skies with temperatures surging into the upper 60s to mid 70s. If you're in western Nebraska, charge your phones and top off the gas tank before Friday afternoon hits. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
