Good afternoon. Mississippi. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside and you're already feeling that humid blanket. We're sitting at 77 degrees. And it's only going up from here. In the next 24 hours. Central Mississippi hits 82 degrees this afternoon under partly sunny skies. South winds at 5 to 10 miles an hour keep things moving. There's a quick shot at thunderstorms around noon, but most of us stay dry. Tonight drops to 64 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. Down on the Gulf Coast, you peak at 72 degrees around noon before things cool slightly. Southeast winds around 10 miles an hour add a little breeze. Watch for patchy fog rolling in after 2 A.M., with lows settling near 65 degrees. Up north, we're looking at 81 degrees this afternoon. South winds at 5 to 10 miles an hour. Tonight turns partly cloudy with lows around 61 degrees — the coolest spot statewide. Friday cranks the heat even higher. Central Mississippi hits 84 degrees. Northern areas reach 81 degrees. The coast stays cooler at 73 degrees. All regions see showers and thunderstorms developing between noon and 5 P.M. Saturday is when things get serious. Showers and thunderstorms move in statewide with an 80 percent chance. We're tracking a marginal risk for severe weather — damaging wind gusts are the main concern. The upside? We're looking at 1 to 3 inches of much-needed rain. Sunday keeps the wet pattern going with continued thunderstorms and cooler temperatures in the low 70s. Early next week stays unsettled with daily storm chances Monday through Wednesday. Another severe weather setup could develop by mid-week, bringing total rainfall to 2 to 4 inches through the period. If you've got outdoor plans this weekend, now's the time to shift them. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
