Good evening. Virginia. I'm Aaron Jolly. That gray ceiling overhead? It's finally lifting. We woke up to 44 degrees under a thick overcast, but the atmosphere is shifting gears. A warm front is actively breaking down that stubborn cool air wedge that's held us in the clouds. And what follows over the next few days is something special. In the next 24 hours. Down in Hampton Roads, patchy fog greets the evening commute. Visibility drops to a quarter-mile or less in spots, so take it slow until that fog burns off late tonight. Highs topped out near 66 degrees with a southwest breeze at 6 to 9 miles an hour. Tonight stays mild with a low around 50. Central Virginia climbed to 69 degrees this afternoon under partly sunny skies. You might catch a brief shower after 4 P.M. — just a slight chance, nothing organized. Tonight's low sits at a comfortable 51. Out west, the valleys woke to patchy dense fog near the rivers, but that cleared by mid-morning. Highs topped out near 69 degrees with a slight chance of a shower between 41 degrees and 5 P.M. Lows tonight dip to 52. The warm-up intensifies Thursday and Friday. Central and Western Virginia surge into the upper 70s tomorrow and could hit 82 degrees by Friday. That's running 41 degrees to 41 degrees above normal for early March, putting us in near-record territory. Hampton Roads stays cooler thanks to the ocean influence, with highs in the upper 60s to near 70. The weekend brings that warmth but also increasing shower chances, especially Saturday night into Sunday. A few thunderstorms can't be ruled out. Tonight's full moon rises at sunset. We're gaining over two minutes of daylight each day now. And the spring equinox sits just two weeks away. It feels like the atmosphere got the memo early.
