    Jan 19 2026

    Send us a text

As clients who regularly hire and collaborate with attorneys on various matters, Macky Outlaw and Jus discuss the qualities that set apart excellent attorneys from those who do not meet expectations.

From our experiences, we highlight the key traits of a great attorney: clear and prompt communication (explaining legal concepts in plain language, providing timely updates, and responding to inquiries), strong listening skills and empathy (understanding client needs and concerns), relevant experience and expertise in the specific area of law, thorough preparation and attention to detail, integrity and transparency (honest evaluations of cases, clear fee structures, and no unrealistic promises), creative problem-solving, and a genuine commitment to achieving the best possible outcome for the client.

We also address common warning signs of a poor attorney: poor communication (delayed responses, lack of updates, or unclear explanations), lack of preparation or organization (missed deadlines or disorganized work), unrealistic assurances about results, unprofessional demeanor (arrogance, condescension, or lack of enthusiasm), unclear or inconsistent billing practices, and failure to prioritize client interests.

This discussion offers practical insights for anyone who hires attorneys—whether for personal, business, or other needs—based on real client observations. We welcome your thoughts in the comments: What experiences have you had with attorneys that stand out as particularly positive or negative?

    Jan 15 2026

    Send us a text

As private investigators with years of hands-on experience in the field, Macky Outlaw and Jus discuss the practical qualities and daily habits that separate good investigators from the rest.

We emphasize foundational everyday practices that contribute to consistent success: showing up on time (punctuality builds trust with clients and ensures you never miss key opportunities during surveillance or meetings), inspecting your gear before starting the day (checking cameras, batteries, notebooks, vehicles, and other equipment to avoid failures in the moment), maintaining strong interview skills (asking open-ended questions, actively listening, reading non-verbal cues, and knowing how to follow up effectively to uncover truthful information), and developing the ability to connect with people (building rapport quickly, showing genuine interest, adapting your approach to different personalities, and earning trust to get people to open up).

We also touch on related traits that support these habits: attention to detail, patience and persistence, discretion and ethical conduct, clear communication (especially in reports and client updates), and thorough preparation for each assignment.

This episode shares straightforward, field-tested insights for fellow investigators, those considering the profession, attorneys who work with PIs, or anyone interested in what really goes into effective private investigation work. • The Killer Dentist: Glennon Engleman's Chilling Murder-for-Hire Spree | True Crime Deep Dive
    Jan 15 2026

    Send us a text

In this episode, Macky Outlaw and Jus dive into one of the most shocking true crime stories you've probably never heard: Dr. Glennon Edward Engleman, the respected St. Louis dentist who secretly became a cold-blooded serial killer and contract killer.

Over more than two decades (from the late 1950s to 1980), Engleman planned and carried out at least five confirmed murders—possibly up to seven or more—all driven by greed through insurance scams, murder-for-hire schemes, and manipulation of the women in his life. From shootings and dynamite explosions to car bombings, his methods were calculated and ruthless, all while maintaining a normal life as a professional dentist.

We break down his known victims, the twisted insurance fraud plots, how he charmed accomplices into helping him, the investigations that finally caught up to him, and why this case inspired elements of horror films like "The Dentist."

If you love deep dives into lesser-known serial killers, double lives, and motive-driven crimes, this one's for you. Hit play and join the conversation!

  • Scorned and Deadly: Wives Who Snapped Over Infidelity
    Jan 12 2026

    Send us a text

Betrayal in marriage can shatter lives—but for some women, discovering a husband's affair pushed them beyond heartbreak into homicide. In this gripping episode, we explore infamous true crime cases where jealousy, rage, and revenge turned fatal.

From Betty Broderick, the San Diego socialite who, after a bitter divorce fueled by her ex-husband's affair with his younger assistant, snuck into their home and shot the couple dead in their bed in 1989... to Clara Harris, the Texas dentist who, in 2002, confronted her cheating orthodontist husband at a hotel and repeatedly ran him over with her Mercedes in a hotel parking lot, all captured on video.

We delve into the psychological buildup: years of emotional turmoil, feelings of abandonment, and the explosive moment when "hell hath no fury" became literal. What drives a devoted wife to murder? Is it temporary insanity, calculated revenge, or something darker? We'll examine the trials, public fascination, and debates over justice versus sympathy in these high-profile mariticides. Join us as we unpack the thin line between scorned love and cold-blooded killing.

  • The McLendon Burden: Alabama's Tough Standard for Changing Child Custody
    Jan 8 2026

    Send us a text

Since 1984, Alabama family courts have applied the landmark Ex parte McLendon ruling—a stringent legal test that makes modifying child custody one of the hardest battles in divorce law. Known as the McLendon standard, it requires the parent seeking change to prove not just a material change in circumstances, but that switching custody will materially promote the child's welfare and that the benefits outweigh the inherent disruption of uprooting a child's life.

In this episode, we break down the origins of the McLendon rule, how it creates a strong presumption in favor of the custodial parent, and why it's designed to prioritize stability over frequent changes. We'll explore real-world implications: the heavy burden on non-custodial parents, comparisons to the less strict "best interests" standard in initial custody cases, and ongoing debates about whether this decades-old doctrine still serves modern families. Is McLendon a shield for children—or a barrier to justice? Join us for an in-depth look at one of Alabama's most influential family law standards.

In November 2024, 62-year-old Stephanie Dowells—a beloved hairstylist, mother, and grandmother known for her kindness and faith—traveled to Mule Creek State Prison in California for an overnight conjugal visit with her husband, David Brinson. Brinson, already serving four consecutive life sentences without parole for a 1993 quadruple murder, called guards claiming she had "passed out." But an autopsy revealed the shocking truth: Stephanie had been strangled to death.

This tragedy became the second such killing during a family visit at the same prison in less than a year, sparking outrage from Stephanie's family, who question how a violent offender was allowed unsupervised private time. We explore the details of the incident, Brinson's criminal history, the delayed murder charges filed in 2025, the family's heartbreaking grief, and broader concerns about California's conjugal visit policies. Was this a preventable failure of the system, or a devastating betrayal in a relationship built on hope for redemption? • Spy Tech Exposed: Hidden Cameras, Bugs, and Eavesdropping – What's Legal for Private Investigators?
    Dec 29 2025

    Send us a text

In this eye-opening episode, I team up with Jus to break down the shadowy world of surveillance gadgets used in private investigations. We explore eavesdropping with hidden microphones and listening devices, covert hidden cameras, and audio bugs – diving into the critical differences between what's legal and what's outright illegal under U.S. laws.

From federal rules like the Wiretap Act and Electronic Communications Privacy Act (which generally ban non-consensual audio interception) to state variations on video surveillance (often allowed in public or low-privacy areas but prohibited in private spaces like bathrooms), and consent requirements for recordings (one-party vs. all-party states), we unpack real-world scenarios PIs face. Can investigators legally plant a bug in a room or car? What about silent video in public vs. audio-enabled cams? We discuss reasonable expectation of privacy, trespass risks, and why illegal methods can torpedo cases (or land everyone in hot water).

Whether you're curious about PI tactics, worried about being surveilled, or just love true detective stories, this episode separates fact from TV fiction. Join us for a no-holds-barred look at the legal lines in modern spying – knowledge is your best defense. Listener discretion advised for discussions of privacy laws and surveillance ethics.
