    • S1E9 – The African Magick They Couldn't Erase
      Jun 30 2025

Centuries of enslavement, oppression, and cultural erasurecouldn’t silence the heartbeat of African spiritual traditions. In this episode, we journey into the legacy of Louisiana Voodoo—a system of belief forged through pain, resilience, and remembrance.

Through the lives of powerful women known as VoodooQueens, we uncover how ancestral knowledge, ritual, and resistance intertwined in the swamps, homes, and hearts of enslaved Africans and their descendants. These are not myths or caricatures. These are stories of sovereignty, community, and survival.

      We explore:

      • The roots of Louisiana Voodoo and its distinction from other African diasporic traditions.

      • The roles of women—healers, midwives, and spiritual leaders—who preserved magick under impossible odds.

      • How Voodoo became a cultural cornerstone, blending African, Indigenous, and Catholic influences in a uniquely Southern expression of the sacred

      • New insights into Marie Laveau, the legendary Voodoo Queen of New Orleans, including oral histories and symbolic clues that suggest her home may have served as a safe haven for enslaved people seeking freedom. Her altar, adorned with a statue of St. Maroon—patron of runaway slaves—offers a glimpse into her quiet acts of resistance and compassion.

Whether you’re new to the topic or reclaiming forgottenhistories, this episode invites you to listen deeply to the voices and spirits that refused to be erased.

    • S1E8 – Prophecy & Paranoia: The Seekers
      Jun 16 2025

In the 1950s, a suburban Chicago housewife named Dorothy Martin headed a small doomsday cult. One of the first of its kind! Dorothy believed she had a direct line to an alien. Sananda, a celestial guide from Clairion. With no formal platform or technology to spread her revelations, Dorothy turned to a surprisingly ordinary method—hosting informal gatherings where her friends could ask Sananda questions, sandwiched between Tupperware sales and alien shaped cupcakes (seriously). But these conversations weren’t about household hacks—they were warnings of an impending apocalypse, and only the worthy would be spared.

Psychologist Leon Festinger saw an opportunity to study belief under pressure, sending students to infiltrate The Seekers. As the predicted doomsday came and went without so much as a flicker from the skies, the group’s faith was put to the ultimate test. Their reactions—rationalizations, denials, and quiet departures—became the foundation for what we now call Cognitive Dissonance.

Throughout the episode, we explore the dynamics within The Seekers, the unwavering support of Dorothy’s husband, Harold, and the far more dubious influence of Charles Laughead. Ultimately, most followers simply returned to their everyday lives. But what happened to Dorothy and Charles? And how does belief endure when faced with undeniable contradiction? How does this apply in 2025?
