It’s a Song of the Week!

I am so excited to present to you this brand new music-centered feature on the show.

Last year we had a blast (my word) listening to 300 albums and discussing them together. Ever since I have known that we were going to get back to holding space to talk specifically about music on the pod, regularly.

And just about a year after we started that massive undertaking, the time is now!!

So instead of album after album, we’re going to talk about ONE SONG AT A TIME.

    -

This week’s THIRTY-NINTH installment song is from Artist: Anita Baker

And is called “Giving You The Best That I Got.”

It’s from her third studio album, also called: Giving You The Best That I Got

You can listen to it here: https://youtu.be/gKGj8XwooYQ?s...

And you can watch the music video here: https://youtu.be/drKJxKyv5Eg?s...

Plus you can almost always grab a preview on my IG @whereschloe; it’s up on the profile.

There is no hierarchy; these songs are going to be in basically a random order, chosen for reasons that I’ll most likely expound upon within the episode. Along with an array of background, inspirations, time frame, album order, cultural context, related themes, personal experiences, etc.

Any genre artist decade that I would listen to is up for grabs and who’s to know what will be next and why? ;)

    Remember your favorites.
    Discover something new.

One song of the week at a time for however long works.

I’m ELATED that you’re along for the ride,

  • So Many Hidden Histories

Let’s get back to some overt Black history discussion before the month ends! There’s so so much to consider-

    Upsettingly brilliant.

Take a deep breath (and stop dehumanizing Black people),

Getting what you want doesn’t necessarily mean that desire abates.

    But rest is okay to,

“… and am free.” Technical note: Excuse the cut off! I thought about correcting it, but I don’t think I’m going to. I’m not perfect, and I don’t need you to expect that of me. I would much rather that you allow me to me human.

Now normally, I am a human that is capable of doing a poetry reading while still being cognizant of broadcast and recording time. I’ve been a bit distracted lately, so bear with me. And thank you.

It’s a lovely poem, and we’ll do Wendell justice again.

Let’s continue talking about saving because apparently we really need to. For those of you to whom it is both accessible to think of saving, and it really matters where each dollar goes, put more of it towards places that are chosen by you.

    I’ll see you tomorrow,

    ***CONTENT WARNING***

This episode may not be for you right now, and that is okay.

It discusses thoughts surrounding fatal self harm.

We’re also reviewing ways to deal with it in your life, and the lives of those you may know, with the assistance of one specific recent example.

I’m not planning on taking it down, so it will still be here for you in the future.

There are so many different kinds of challenging thoughts and feelings that are, at their essence, temporary.

If you are equipped to listen to this today, that is okay too. You are also free to change your mind at any point and come back later.

Or, stay for the entire thing and utilize the conversation as an opportunity if you are able.

Thank you for continuing to be here,

We’re going to start talking about saving money, which is tough to do!

It’s tough to talk about and to actually do because so many ppl are in different, challenging, financial places.

Plus talking about money can make ppl feel jealous, awkward, inadequate, frustrated, or uncomfortable.

    But we press on!

    Please don’t give up,
