I'm so happy to hear that JJ's health is on the up, after suffering an ischemic stroke in 2018. His new album - After A Thousand Years - is due out on Far Out Recordings.

This conversation (quality is rough, sorry) is back from 2009, pre-JJ Doom, although we do talk Doom in the podcast - Shape Of Broad Minds had entered my psyche in a big way thanks to the Ehquestionmark cover art and mix CD on the front of Hip Hop Connection in 2007, and the wax on Lex Records remains a treasured possession.

Jawwaad is also there in the background somewhere.

    • Marc Mac [2008]
      Apr 5 2020

Marc Mac was in town to play soul at the third ever hoya:hoya club night, when it was down at the Music Box having taken over Electric Chair's Saturday night slot - Dom Servini, Capstone and residents Ryan Hunn and Jonny Dub completed the bill.

Hoya soon moved to a more intimate venue at The Roadhouse (as would Mr Scruff with his move to Band On The Wall) and the Music Box closed down in early 2010.

Although brief, hooking up with Marc was a great pleasure and a good opportunity to flex some then-in-need-of-development interview skills (hell, I'm still learning). In fact, Marc's warm spirit gave me a lift and I knew it was worth continuing to chat to artists whenever possible.
