À propos de cette écoute

Every episode, we walk down a street that sparks curiosity. What is their history? Why are they called what they called and who are the people who walked that same road? Come with me, Yen-Lyng, your host, where we explore some of the streets that stand out, for one reason or another. Some might be old and steeped in history. Others might be so new, that you never even knew they existed. Either way, take a step deeper into this exploratory and immersive podcast - Grandfather’s Road.Grandfather's Road Sciences sociales Écritures et commentaires de voyage

    • Episode 5 - Bukit Batok West Avenue 8 | The Road I Don't Remember
      Jun 18 2022

Most of my conscious childhood was spent in Bukit Batok West. It’s where I went to school, and my closest family and friends lived. It’s been almost 10 years since I’ve moved out. And since then, the place has changed so much that I cannot recognize it. Whole neighbourhoods have sprouted up in a place that was literally grassland and forests. In this episode, I explore the road I do not remember being there.

    • Episode 4 - Pulau Saigon | The Lost Island within Singapore
      Jun 4 2022

Singapore is a small island, surrounded by other smaller islands. But did you know, we use to have an island within Singapore? It lay unassumingly along the Singapore River, and the roads surrounding it have diverted a bit but are largely still there. It might also be the origins of Bak Kut Teh!

    • Episode 3 - Thomson Road & The North-South Corridor
      May 21 2022

In late 2020, heavy construction commenced on Thomson Road, a major arterial road that affected the junction between Moulmein Road, Thomson Road and Newton Road. The works have moved earth, roads, businesses, and lives. What’s building is literally a road of the future. We’ll explore the changing historical road and how it has affected the people around it.
