On the morning of March 31, 1995, the American singer Selena Quintanilla- Perez was fatally shot and wounded at the Days Inn in Corpus Christi, Texas. His body was discovered by his girlfriend, Karen Read. Read had dropped O'Keefe off at the Albert residence the night before and had not heard from him since. Read was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, motor vehicle homicide, and leaving the scene of a deadly crash. Prosecutors allege that Read hit O'Keefe with her SUV and left the scene She faced a criminal trial in the Summer of 2024 which resulted in a mistrial as a result of a hung jury.
