  • BETHEL: DON’T LET TRADITION REPLACE THE WORD OF GOD | Worship God Alone | Capt. Rajesh Daniel

    Title

BETHEL: DON’T LET TRADITION REPLACE THE WORD OF GOD | Worship God Alone | Capt. Rajesh Daniel

“Every place on which the sole of your foot treads shall be yours… No man shall be able to stand against you.” — Deuteronomy 11:24–25

Before Elisha received the double portion, his feet passed through four significant places:

    GILGAL → BETHEL → JERICHO → JORDAN

In this message, Capt. Rajesh Daniel continues the journey through BETHEL with a serious warning:

DON’T ALLOW RELIGIOUS TRADITION TO REPLACE OBEDIENCE TO THE WORD OF GOD.

Bethel means “House of God.” It was the place where Jacob encountered God. Yet generations later, King Jeroboam established a golden calf at Bethel (1 Kings 12:28–29).

    Think about it:

A PLACE KNOWN FOR AN ENCOUNTER WITH GOD LATER BECAME ASSOCIATED WITH FALSE WORSHIP.

Spiritual history alone cannot protect us if we depart from God's Word.

Exodus 20:4–5 warns against making an image for the purpose of bowing down to it or serving it. Jesus reaffirmed the fundamental direction of worship:

“You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.” — Matthew 4:10

Scripture repeatedly redirects worship away from created beings and toward God.

When John fell before an angel in Revelation 22, the angel stopped him:

“Do not do that… Worship God.”

When Cornelius fell at Peter's feet, Peter immediately raised him up:

“Stand up; I myself am also a man.” — Acts 10:26

Mary is honored in Scripture as “blessed among women.” Christians should never dishonor her. Yet Mary herself magnified the Lord and rejoiced in “God my Savior.”

And Jesus must never be placed in the category of angels, saints, or other created beings.

    JESUS CHRIST IS LORD.

    John 1:1 declares:

    “The Word was God.”

Hebrews 1 distinguishes the Son from angels and speaks of angels worshipping Him.

Therefore, the biblical question is not simply:

“What has my family always practiced?”

    or

“What does my religious tradition teach?”

    The greater question is:

“WHAT DOES THE WORD OF GOD SAY?”

Jesus warned in Mark 7 about allowing human tradition to displace God's commandment.

Tradition itself is not automatically wrong. Many traditions can remind us of biblical truth.

BUT WHEN ANY TRADITION CONTRADICTS SCRIPTURE, GOD’S WORD MUST HAVE THE FINAL AUTHORITY.

Our eternal hope cannot rest upon an image, statue, medal, building, pastor, denomination, saint, angel, or family tradition.

OUR SALVATION IS IN JESUS CHRIST.

    Acts 4:12 declares:

“Nor is there salvation in any other.”

    And 1 Timothy 2:5 says:

“There is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.”

This message is not a call to insult, hate, or attack people from another Christian tradition. People are not our enemies. We are called to speak truth in love and examine our own beliefs and practices in the light of Scripture.

Before Elisha reached Jordan, he passed through Bethel.

    Bethel reminds us:

DON’T JUST ASK IF IT IS AN OLD TRADITION.

DON’T JUST ASK IF IT IS POPULAR.

DON’T JUST ASK IF GENERATIONS HAVE PRACTICED IT.

    Ask:

“IS IT ACCORDING TO THE WORD OF GOD?”

    Let Scripture lead us.

Let Christ remain at the center.

And let our worship belong to God alone.

RETURN TO BETHEL WITH THE BLESSING | Don’t Forget God After Your Prayer Is Answered | Capt.

Rajesh Daniel shares another powerful revelation from BETHEL:

THE GOD WHO MET JACOB WHEN HE HAD LITTLE CALLED HIM BACK TO BETHEL AFTER HE HAD MUCH.

In Genesis 28, Jacob arrived at Bethel while running from home. He had no established household or great possessions. Yet in that uncertain season, God met him and promised:

“I am with you… I will keep you wherever you go.”

    Years passed.

Jacob's family increased. His possessions increased. God had preserved him and prospered his journey.

    Then something remarkable happened.

    Genesis 35:1 says:

“Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there; and make an altar there to God.”

God called the blessed Jacob back to the place where he had encountered Him when he had little.

    Here is the revelation:

DON’T FORGET GOD AFTER YOUR PRAYER IS ANSWERED.

    Sometimes people pray desperately:

    “Lord, give me a job.”

    “Lord, establish my business.”

    “Lord, open this door.”

    “Lord, bless my family.”

    “Lord, answer this prayer.”

They pray, fast, attend church, and ask others to intercede.

    Then the answer comes.

    The job comes.

    The business grows.

    The opportunity opens.

    The prayer is answered.

But suddenly prayer becomes less important.

    Fellowship becomes optional.

Church becomes something attended only when convenient.

The very blessing they prayed for begins taking the place that belongs to God.

    Deuteronomy 8 warns:

“Beware that you do not forget the LORD your God.”

    And then:

“You shall remember the LORD your God.”

Sometimes the greatest spiritual danger is not during the battle.

IT IS AFTER THE BATTLE IS OVER.

Jacob had been blessed, but God said:

    “GO BACK TO BETHEL.”

    Return to worship.

    Return to surrender.

    Return to consecration.

Return to remembering Who carried you.

Before returning, Jacob told his household in Genesis 35:2:

“Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves…”

Returning to Bethel required more than changing location.

    IT REQUIRED CONSECRATION.

For believers today, this is not a command to travel to a physical Bethel or build an Old Testament altar. Through Jesus Christ, we have access to God, and believers are temples of the Holy Spirit.

    But the spiritual principle remains:

    DON’T LET GOD’S GIFT TAKE GOD’S PLACE.

Hebrews 10:25 teaches us not to forsake assembling together. We don't attend church to earn salvation or repay God for His blessings. We gather because we belong to Christ and His body.

    Matthew 6:33 says:

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.”

Not only until you get the job.

Not only until the breakthrough comes.

Not only until the prayer is answered.

SEEK HIM FIRST EVEN AFTER THE BLESSING COMES.

    You have the job now—

    RETURN TO BETHEL.

    The prayer was answered—

    RETURN TO BETHEL.

    The business is growing—

    RETURN TO BETHEL.

    God has blessed your family—

    RETURN TO BETHEL.

    Return with gratitude.

    Return with testimony.

    Return with worship.

    And declare:

“LORD, WHAT YOU GAVE ME WILL NEVER BECOME MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOU.”

May every answered prayer draw us closer to Jesus, not farther away.
