- Pause important tool to give you confidence, emphasise points, build tension, limit um’s and ahs’s, punctuate, listen and feedback
- Importance Of Pace
- A rate of progress
- Important to find right pace
- Don’t want to go too fast
- Don’t want to go too slow
- Identify what the context is
- If rapping for example don’t want to go slow
- If you want to make a talk interesting don’t want to go too slow
- If reading something you want to be consistent
- If talking about something want to be engaging so might want to vary the pace.
- E.g. use pace to your advantage. Add drama by starting to tell a story then gradually getting more into a frenzy.
- Make a point can slow down and combine with pauses.
- You need to speak slower than you think
- The tone of your voice
- Avoid monotonous tone
- Try not to let pitch fall towards end of sentances
- use pitch for emphasis
- This occurs when we are not concentrating on what we are doing and when we are scared
- Don’t vary pitch at all
- Very boring to listen to
- Be prepared for your audience to go to sleep
- Keep pitch up right to the end
- Don’t let pitch fall down
- Think about happy thoughts
- When we are happy and positive then our pitch stays up
- Now think about when you are sad or scared
- What happens to your pitch
- You may not even be able to get your words out
- Otherwise you may start ok but the end of your sentance will tail off
- When you are in a market how to traders attract your attention. They shout
- What happens if your in immediate danger the pitch and tone goes up and gets loud
- Sometimes that is important to get someones attention
- Use sparingly
- What happens when you whisper. Everyone has to listen that bit harder
- This can be used to highlight an important bit of your talk
- You can purposely drop the end of the sentence so no one can hear. To make a point
- Pause, pace and pitch when used together can make a massive difference
- Pause can give you a chance to think about what it is you want to say
- Pace has to be used for the context you are given
- Pitch can be used to emphasise and to make sure that your words can be understood
- Find a poem to read. Work out where you need to alter your pace and pitch. Work out if there are any places that you should...
