À propos de ce contenu audio
This roundtable discussion features husband Tim and father-in-law Mike, a 27-year ministry veteran, exploring how Christian parents can raise children under the new covenant.
Old vs. New Covenant Parenting Unlike the old covenant's law-based approach, new covenant parenting is rooted in grace — Christ's finished work means parents aren't striving for perfection but responding to God's love. The central parenting verse is Ephesians 6:4: "provoke not your children, but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord."
Key Practical Principles
- Don't provoke your children — avoid frustrating them with inconsistent rules or unrealistic expectations
- Full training means doctrine (teaching the standard), reproof (addressing when they fall short), and correction (bringing them back to the standard)
- Structure creates safety — consistent routines help children feel secure, mirroring how God's unchanging nature gives us peace
- Discipline over consequences — focus on redirecting children toward what's right rather than dwelling on what's wrong
- Model the gospel — children absorb your character and faith more through observation than instruction
Grace and Rewards Parents are encouraged to reflect both God's mercy (withholding deserved consequences) and grace (giving undeserved blessing), which teaches children the nature of God organically.
The episode emphasizes that parents don't need to parent perfectly — Christ's work covers the gaps — and that growing in the gospel yourself is one of the greatest gifts you can pass on to your children.
