On April 12th, 1961, a thirty-four-year-old pilot from a small Soviet village did something that changed human history—he became the first human to enter space. His name is Yuri Gagarin.

Growing up in the rural village of Klushino, Gagarin experienced the cruelty of war and witnessed a Soviet pilot shot down by the Germans. This planted the seed of flying dreams in his heart. Through exceptional perseverance and remarkable composure, he stood out from over three thousand pilots to become one of the Soviet Union's first cosmonaut candidates.

On the morning of April 12th, 1961, Gagarin boarded the Vostok 1 rocket, shouted "Let's go!" and launched humanity into a new era of space exploration. During his 108-minute flight, he became the first human to see the blue Earth with his own eyes—a sight that made him deeply aware of our planet's beauty and fragility.

After his safe return, Gagarin became an overnight global hero, visiting dozens of countries and receiving enthusiastic welcomes everywhere. Yet he remained humble, always crediting the entire team for his achievement. In March 1968, at the peak of his life, Gagarin tragically died during a routine training flight.
