À propos de ce contenu audio

Dead Man Talking is a raw podcast focused on Bob Roberts, a man facing stage four cancer with honesty and humor. In this podcast, Bob invites longtime college friends Jason Janz, Will Galkin, Ellis Murphree, and Josh Darnell to discuss cancer, suffering, death, hope, and faith in an unfiltered dialogue that embraces life’s unpredictability.

The show is a heartfelt exploration of personal struggles and enduring friendships, where hard truths meet genuine laughter. Bob and his friends share their journeys and reflections on what it means to live fully in the face of mortality. This podcast does not offer neat solutions; it instead presents a love letter to life and friendship, inviting listeners to find hope and grace even in the midst of hardship.

    • Episode 20 - Sobering Cancer Update Inspires Multiple Resignations
      Jan 22 2026

At the start of the new year, the crew gets together again to talk about resolutions...rather resignations. The idea of resolutions is pretty common, but we take the liberty to add a spin on things and talk about the idea of resignations.

In this episode, we get a framework for crafting your very own resignations as well as hearing some of the resignations that the guys have put together themselves.

We also get an updated report on Bob's cancer journey as well as an update on the "Crack the Barrel" challenge.

Prompts for writing your own Resignations

What version of yourself are you still striving to become that consistently produces anxiety rather than faithfulness?

What limitation—temperamental, physical, relational, or circumstantial—have you been treating as an obstacle rather than a boundary God intends you to live and act within?

Where are you sensing responsibility that God has never clearly assigned to you?

What criticism or disappointment have you been trying to outgrow instead of accepting as part of faithful living and following Jesus?

What failure in your past are you still struggling to get over?

If you were to write one honest resignation for this year, what illusion would you be willing to release?

      You might begin simply:

      Resigned, that…
      So, be thankful for…

      Closing Reflection

The Christian life is not about finally becoming impressive enough for God to use. It is about becoming truthful enough to stop getting in the way.

    • BONUS EPISODE: Revisiting Cancer, Suffering, and Friendship and More (Live from Emmanuel Baptist PA)

Around Thanksgiving 2025, the Dead Man Talking crew met up for a weekend together in Central PA. They spent time together at Camp K, and got the opportunity to present live some of what they have been doing on the podcast.

Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mechanicsburg, PA, graciously hosted the DMT crew for a service. Special thanks to the AV team from the church who was able to capture this conversation and Q&A.

Some of what was said here was review from previous episode, but some of what was talked about was shared with fresh perspective and intentionally prescriptive. Even if you are a regular listener of the podcast, this LIVE event is worth the time to check it out.

    • Episode 19 - The Cracker Barrel Intervention: When the Guy with Cancer Tells You to Lose 30 Pounds
      Dec 31 2025

It's the end of the year and the beginning of 2026. Looking back on all that the team has experienced here on Dead Man Talking, we have learned a few things. One of the biggest things that we have realized is that our health matters. We only have one life, so we need to be the best stewards with what God has given.

Bob leads the charge and sounds that battle cry, in Cracker Barrel of all places, for the crew to change towards better health habits in the upcoming year. He makes the case that very likely the cause of his cancer was poor and careless eating. So, out of love for his brothers, he challenges the group to make better choices in eating and fitness.

In this episode, the group reflects on the challenge that has been made for the team, why it's important and what it will look like in the new year.
