Most people don’t realize one of the biggest financial battles in the world is happening right now.

Banks and the crypto industry are fighting over something called the CLARITY Act, a bill that could determine whether stablecoins are allowed to offer yield.

Here’s the issue.

Banks currently pay almost nothing on savings accounts while earning significant profits using depositor funds. But stablecoins — digital dollars backed by U.S. Treasury reserves — can potentially generate 4–5% returns.

That has the banking industry worried.

Bank lobby groups have warned that up to $6.6 trillion in deposits could eventually move out of the traditional banking system if stablecoins become a competitive alternative.

Now the debate has escalated in Washington.

Banks are lobbying lawmakers to ban yield on stablecoins, while the crypto industry argues that doing so would protect banking profits at the expense of consumers.

President Trump has now stepped into the debate, accusing banks of trying to block Americans from earning more money on their money.
