Connection Issues explores the gap between what shapes connection and how we experience it. Hosted by Jacky Minkler and Louis Barry, the show examines the cultural, technological, emotional, and personal forces influencing how we find belonging in modern life. Some episodes explore the systems around us. Others dive into the unseen experiences we carry within us. Together, we're asking why connection feels harder now, and what it takes to rebuild it.Jacky Minkler, Louis Barry Sciences sociales

A strong why is not just a brand story; it is a personal anchor that helps us stay grounded when the path gets messy. In a recent conversation, we talked about how community, recovery, mental health, and social connection often lead us back to the same truth. People need spaces where they can be honest, supported, and seen.

For one of us, that mission grew out of lived experience in addiction recovery and the power of reaching out instead of isolating. For the other, it came from a lifelong pull toward empowerment, movement, and building systems that help people connect in real life.

What stood out most is that mission is rarely a straight line; it evolves through our experiences, our pain, our values, and the communities that help us heal. Whether we are building products, hosting events, or simply checking in with one another, the goal is the same - create more connection, reduce isolation, and make it easier for people to take the next right step.

Grateful for conversations that remind us why we started and who we are building for.

Ten years later, a reunion with my boys, Liam and Hezekiah, reminded me that some bonds do not fade with time. They deepen through shared experiences, honest conversations, and the willingness to show up for each other.

Left feeling grateful for the friendships built in school, for the space to reconnect, and for the reminder that checking in does not have to happen once a decade.

Gratitude has shown up for me in the simple things: a message sent, a difficult conversation shared, a group of people who make room for honesty, support, and growth - whether it is talking about mental health, identity, loss, or just life as it happens, these are the conversations that strengthen community.

If there is someone from your past who shaped you, reach out. The distance is often smaller than we think, and the connection matters more than we realize.
