CARTRIDGE AND QUEST: The Ultimate 90s Hangout

Remember when "multiplayer" meant untangling wired controllers on a floral-print couch, fueled by a two-liter of soda and a family-sized bag of chips? When Friday nights were defined by the smell of Blockbuster Video plastic, and the ultimate playground flex was knowing the blood code for Mortal Kombat?

Welcome to Cartridge and Quest, your weekly audio escape back to the golden era of retro gaming, 90s pop culture, and unapologetic nerd history.

YOUR CO-OP PARTNERS

We are your hosts, Averagetrav (Travis Feiock) and Foodie Mike C (Mike Castaneda). Born in 1985—the exact year the NES dropped in North America and changed everything—we met in high school detention in the 620 area code and have been talking trash over pixels ever since.

  • Averagetrav: Your resident IT Director by day and basement podcaster by night. Trav is a fierce Nintendo loyalist (NES/SNES) who will also defend the Sega Dreamcast to his dying breath. He's a Dallas Cowboys fan navigating the beautiful chaos of raising four kids, all while lounging in his DudeRobe, strictly dodging non-Grillo pickles, and keeping the spirit of the My Pal 2000 alive.
  • Foodie Mike C: The edgy Sega Genesis kid who brought "Blast Processing" to the friendship. Mike is a legit chef, Food Network All-Star Academy alum, and culinary mastermind who has cooked for touring bands and athletes. He brings the absolute heat with his food takes, expertly reviews our opening craft beers, and balances our sweet nostalgia with the gritty reality of the 90s media landscape.
THE BASEMENT SANCTUARY VIBE

Each episode, we unlock the vault on classic adventures, swap hilarious childhood stories, and reflect on how those 16-bit experiences shaped us into the adults and dads we are today.

We aren't here for dry, Wikipedia-style history lectures. We use our signature 4H MethodologyHook, Hangout, History, Humor—to focus purely on the feeling of the era. We'll admit when classic games were actually clunky and celebrate the modern tech that makes life easier, ensuring there is absolutely zero "Old Man Yells at Cloud" energy in the room.

Broadcasting straight from our unscripted, brick-walled basement sanctuary—the ultimate escape from adulthood—expect us to dive into:

  • Retro Rewind: Deep dives into the games, Saturday morning cartoons, wild fashion, and Attitude Era wrestling that defined our youth.
  • Cartridge Conundrum: Fast-paced retro trivia that is just challenging enough to make you yell the answers at your steering wheel.
  • Cocina Quest: Foodie Mike C reimagining iconic 90s pop-culture meals, from the perfect Ninja Turtles pizza to the legendary Big Kahuna Burger.
  • Generational Translation: Decoding modern Gen Z slang and sharing the hilarious realities of passing the controller to the next generation.
HIT THE TURBO BUTTON

It’s a journey from blowing on dusty cartridges to navigating the boss battles of fatherhood. Whether you're commuting to the 9-to-5, hitting the gym, or just hiding in the garage for five minutes of peace, pull up a chair.
