We’re delighted to welcome Dr Todd S. Bacastow, a Penn State Academy Professor and Teaching Professor Emeritus in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at Penn State. Throughout his academic career, Todd has focused on recognising the impact of emerging technologies and their influence on the education and training of geospatial analysts. He remains actively involved in research on how geospatial analysts are educated and trained, and he has previously served on the Board of Directors for the U.S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF). Over his 40-year career in education, Todd has taught and mentored thousands of students, equipping them with knowledge and skills in GIS and geospatial intelligence. After retiring from the United States Army in 1994, where he held various positions in infantry, engineering, and geospatial intelligence, Todd joined Penn State. He also served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography and Computer Science and as an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering at the U.S. Military Academy. He holds a BS in Engineering from the United States Military Academy (1974) and an MS (1983) and PhD (1992) in Geography from Penn State University.

Zena Wood is an Associate Professor in Digital Economy at the University of Exeter and Director of the Defence Data Research Centre (DDRC). Professor Wood’s background is in Computer Science with her research focusing on how value can be derived from datasets that would help understand the impact of digital transformation within the Digital Economy and the Defence sector. In 2024, she was recognised as part of Digital Leaders 100 in the category of AI Expert of the Year, and as one of the TechWoman100.
