À propos de ce contenu audio

Birth Like a Mammal™ is a community created for both parents and doulas. Lindsay has over a decade of professional doula experience supporting families during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Combined with her B.S. in Animal Science, Lindsay is an expert on mammalian birth. Most of what is taking place in hospital L&D units is not in alignment with mammalian biology, and the complications that arise during and from giving birth can be prevented or avoided altogether by simply giving birth like a mammal.

Energetics, Intuition, and Staying Unbothered by the Noise in Pregnancy and Birth

In episode 25 of the Birth Like a Mammal™ podcast, Lindsay shares that she hasn’t released an episode in six months due to grief during the summer of 2025, cognitive shutdown, and full-time travel after selling her house, which made recording difficult with her girls always with her.

She refocuses the podcast and her Birth Like a Mammal™ work on energetics: how scarcity vs. abundance mindsets and trust in intuition shape pregnancy, birth, and Motherhood, and how inner confidence can reduce reliance on external “saving” from hospitals or providers.

She argues doulas need more education and supportive community aligned with mammalian biology and physiological birth, she emphasizes shutting out others’ noise and staying rooted in inner wisdom, and invites pregnant women needing guidance in preparing for birth to apply for limited one-on-one coaching spots.

    Key Takeaways:

    1. Birth is energy: What is your energetic threshold for yourself?
    2. Personal Belief System: What do you believe to be true about yourself and birth in general?
    3. Outsourcing: Why do women outsource their power during pregnancy and birth?
    4. Scarcity vs Abundance: ‘typically how we view the world around us is how we perceive pregnancy and birth to be. But that is a learned perspective and can be changed.

    Quotes:

    • " In my experience….all of my doula education and professional groups and stuff is all focused on hospital birth and how do we advocate, and how do we teach our clients to make birth plans, and how do we teach them to talk to the staff, and how do we tell them when to go so they're not there too long but they get their in enough time, and like all this compliance and bending and flexibility and rerouting of their nervous system to to support hospital needs and wants and protocols and procedures… it's ridiculous! The hospital should be doing that for women."
    • " Birth is energy. It's probably one of the most significant and highest forms of energy that we will experience in a lifetime. And how you give birth is how you prepare for it energetically beforehand.."
    • "All of that belief in ourselves and the connection to our intuition and the trust in our design and all of those things mentioned is energy.""
    • " I didn't really understand energetics and all of that when I had my first baby but because I listened to my intuition, and because I followed that innate knowing in my body, that carried me into this incredible mammalian birth that I knew existed because I'd seen horses do it, but I really didn't have anybody in my life that could tell a birth story like mine."

Tracee’s Journey from Obstetric Birth to Free Birth PART 2

In this episode of the Birth Like a Mammal™ podcast, host Lindsay Askins sits down with Tracee Schaeffer, a former doula client, now a BLAM team member, a Mother of 10, a doula, and one of Lindsay's dearest friends. They discuss in detail Tracee's extensive and varied birthing experiences: Tracee has birthed ten babies every way possible from unmedicated hospital births, inductions, home births, and Cesareans. She shares with us her insights on how different care scenarios impacted her postpartum and Mothering experiences.

They recount stories from Tracee's pregnancies, from a traumatic hospital induction with her third child to a planned home birth that ended in an emergency Cesarean of twins. This episode highlights the importance of care providers, the mental shifts required for each new birth experience, and how Tracee navigated her journey from conventional medical practices to trusting her instincts in home births without midwives. They also touch on Tracee's inspiration to become a doula and the impact of her and LIndsay's advocacy work. This episode is a deep dive into maternal health, birthing choices, and the powerful journey of Motherhood, doula work and friendship.

This recording is divided into two episodes, 23 and 24. We try to keep our episodes an hour or less in consideration of all that Mothers juggle on a daily basis!

    Key Takeaways:

    1. Young Mothers have the hardest time making decisions for themselves and their babies during pregnancy and labor.
    2. A Mother's postpartum experience is directly related to the care she receives during labor and birth.
    3. Birth trauma is rooted in coercion, manipulation, threats, and loss of control and autonomy.
    4. Mothers and families must take back birth into their own power and decision making - nobody is going to hand it to us.

    Notable Quotes from Tracee:

    • " I've had quite the progression from going from hospital birth to having unassisted home births....having hospital medicated birth, I've had two different types of Cesareans."
    • “The nurse told me to stop laughing because she was coming out......I literally laughed my first one out.”
    • “Being induced will make it really easy to find someone to watch your other kids.” - male OB to Tracee
    • “That induction was awful, was horrible....They gave me zero information [regarding cytotec].”
    • "And that's when I told them, 'I only want to see a midwife'."
    • "Because of the relationship we had, because she built this trust with me, and she never broke it.....when she tell me, 'abandon ship', I believe her, and I'm fine with that."
