In this heartwarming special episode of 702 Sports: On The Sidelines, we are proud to launch the Celebration of Abilities Award, a collaboration between Creation 4 Cause and the Clark County School District (CCSD). This quarterly award series highlights outstanding students with special abilities who go above and beyond in both athletics and academics. In this first episode, we surprise Sophia Zagorski, an incredible Paralympic athlete competing in shot put, discus, and javelin, who recently tried out for the Paris Paralympic Games. We had the honor of celebrating Sophia's inspiring journey at her alma mater, Green Valley High School, alongside her mom Diane, boyfriend Josh, aunt Kiki, coaches Jerrad Clancy and Kellen Bush as well as her Principal, CCSD staff, Best Buddies Deputy Director Michele Vogan, and Destiny from Siegel Cares. Throughout the episode, hosts Big Al, Anise, and Best Buddies State Ambassador Nick G. engage with Sophia, her family, boyfriend, and coaches about the challenges she’s faced, the obstacles she’s overcome, and the inspiration she brings to everyone around her. Recorded messages from her friends and family, along with special words of encouragement from sports reporters Amy G and Bill Reiter and former Raider Stanford Routt, highlight just how much Sophia has impacted her community. Sophia was also treated to an incredible gift basket as part of her recognition, filled with thoughtful items from local businesses and nonprofits.
