By structural engineering involvement during deconstruction, Alexis and her team were able to devise a deconstruction and cataloging system that allowed these structural elements to be reused in a new construction fire station in the City of Boulder. With the construction industry contributing to 40% of carbon emissions, reusing structural members makes a lot of sense and greatly influences construction impact to the environment.
