À propos de ce contenu audio

Often compared to Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid’s Tale and Naomi Alderman's The Power - Woman on the Edge of Time has been hailed as a classic of speculative science fiction. Disturbing and forward thinking, Marge Piercy’s remarkable novel will speak to a new generation.

Connie Ramos has been unjustly incarcerated in a mental institution with no hope of release. The authorities view her as a danger to herself and to others. Her family has given up on her.

But Connie has a secret - a way to escape the confines of her cell. She can see the future.

For fans of The Handmaid's Tale, this is a reissue of a much loved feminist classic.

"She is a serious writer who deserves the sort of considered attention which, too often, she does not get." (Margaret Atwood)

I almost gave up listening to this this novel because its beginning is so oppressive to me, almost unbearable. I'm glad I kept going.
Marge Piercy attempts to describe a utopian society based on “hippie” values through a story. This didactic element weighs down the text. Another burden is the manichean distribution of roles.
Nevertheless, I let myself be drawn in and followed the path she sets out for her readers. "Reading" this novel, written in the 1970s and published in 1976, in 2025 is sometimes a comical experience, given the “woke” questions that preoccupy us today. For example, Marge Piercy, now 89, already uses gender-neutral pronouns.
    Ideas trickle down generations...
Tanya Eby reads very well, she has a singular voice. The melody she uses didn’t work so well for me, although I think it fits the mood of the story.

    Utopia in a terrible jail
