    Description

    A life in shambles

Lyr might be a powerful elven lord in charge of thousands, but his personal life is a disaster. Just the month before, a daughter he'd never known existed arrived from Earth, giving him news of his lost love's death. Since then he has been betrayed, captured, and almost murdered. And though his enemy was defeated, Lyr's wounds never seem to heal. He certainly doesn't need more conflict.

    A perilous journey

Amid the glittering perfection of Alfheim, Meli is a dismal failure. Haunted by visions of people and places she's never seen, she struggles to find her place. So when her king orders her to lead an expedition to another world, Meli is caught between shock and terror. How can she navigate the veil between worlds with no magic of her own? But with Alfheim threatened by strange, dark energy, she has no choice.

    A threat that spans worlds

The last thing Lyr expects is the arrival of the Ljósálfar, the reclusive Norse elves of Alfheim. More surprising? One among them, Meli, is a possible soulbounded, a link he'd believed lost with his previous love. But wounded and besieged with problems on every side, he can't let himself be distracted. Poisoned energy is flooding into the closely connected realms of the fae, causing sickness, and Lyr must rush to find the source of the threat.

Only Moranaia remains untouched - leading Lyr to suspect one of his own people might be to blame.

    Nice story ..... something missing

The storyline is told well. Info like the concept and plots. Something just missing between the relationships. They just seem to be dry and boring. I fine myself skipping threw to get back to the story. The intimacy just seems forced. The is no real passion and feeling that you typically read in characters. No real tension in any of the relationships expect with the protagonist.
The author never really showed the relationship between Arlin and her fathers new mate..... just something missing

    Just okay

It’s okay. The story is really head to follow. It’s like they just drop new characters out of no where. Since the voices never change you just get lost. There is also something missing is the relationships with the characters. Maybe they are just rushed I’m not sure.

Lyr = Too stupid to live

Yeah, 500 year old warrior but a complete baffoon. I hate it when an author writes with some sort of premise, like a general who is supposed to be a great military leader and all they do is stumble along with bad decisions a Gomer wouldn't make.

    Narrator takes away from story

Over all, I like the series first two books. The narrators do not do justice to the voices. At times I am not able to tell who is being portrayed right away. Ms de Cuir makes the women sound wimpy and windy, and the men sound feminine or too angry. Mr Rudnicki makes the women sound five yrs old and the men gruff.
It’s hard enough following all the many characters as it is.

    Lyr & Meli

Lyr is the Elf Lord in charge of protecting the veil between earth and his world and the sacred tree.

His personal life is still trying to find it's footing after discovering he had a daughter the month before and surviving a murder plot against him.

Meli is not held in high regard but more as a failure as a mage in her world. Her true talent lies in "finding things" - All her life she's had visions of people and places she's never visited. No one is more surprised than Meli when her king orders her to travel on an expedition to Lyr's world. Meli is insecure and has never traveled or wanted to, especially through the veil where individuals have known to go missing for years -

When Meli and her team arrived uninvited on Moranaia, they discover there is a soul bounding pull for both of them. This is impossible since his soul bounded died on earth - no one has ever recorded a 2nd soul bound before.... Then there is the "ambassador" travelling with Meli (you love to hate her) - While poisonous energy is seeping into the fae realms causing sickness, Lyr needs to isolate the threat protect the children of all the realms, while investigating and stopping the seeping.

I really enjoyed this story, more than the first book - it had more substance in the story line - perhaps it's me, but sometimes I got easily confused when all the elves gave their LONG rank/status before there name and I got lost in who was what character -

    ehhhhh

so the first book was decent. I listened to this second one and im not gonna lie... was pretty bored. my mind would wander thinking about other stuff. I'm not even completely sure what happened in the middle in some parts. not sure if I will do book 3 or not. would probably not recommend.

    Good Story

Narrator was good but I think if it would have been read a little bit different it would’ve held more excitement it was still a good story and it didn’t involve just two people

    underwhelmed

I gave book 2 a chance thinking it would become more interesting, it didn't.

    pinpointing my dislikes
    1) written in 3rd person
    2) jumping from different characters and scenes in mid chapter, felt like whiplash. felt the transition could be been done better
    3) ALOT of different characters, you all all the characters before they even meet each other. because of this (see below)
    4) nothing was a surprise, I knew who the love interests was, the villain, the long lost father from the moment they were introduced. thus lead to a very predictable story line and plot
    5) not enough detail about the characters/ no character development, no sweet loving moment between characters to show emotions. felt very superficial . I didn't believe the characters felt anything for each other it was just said this person loves loves that one. no small moments to really make you FEEL IT.
    6) no spicy scenes (I know it's not everyone's preference)

overall felt the writing was really lacking, story was boring and became disinterested. didn't love the characters because I didn't feel like I knew them or understood how they felt.

    The story is good

It takes time to get used to the narrators… but the story itself worth it, despite the long titles
