Jack is an artist living in the squalor of London's East End. He wants a quiet life, keeping to himself as much as is possible, spending time only with his best friend. That all changes when Mary comes along. She decides that Jack will be the one to free her from her desolate life. Whether he wants to participate or not.
Soon Jack is immersed in murder, chaos, and accusations he cannot hide from. His best friend has left the city for good, he is being blamed for all the bad things happening, and someone is stalking him.
Amidst jealousy, love, and unimaginable, misunderstood circumstances Jack must try to protect his name and keep himself out of prison. As he desperately tries he finds himself haunted by a question. Was what he did really a crime?
