In the forest where golden things grew, the being only Mori knew as Rumpelstiltskin grew bored watching the wheat and yarrow grow. One day, Rumpelstiltskin confides in Mori he wants to reinvigorate his endless existence by becoming a father, and right from the start, he sees that Rumpelstiltskin’s desire is no laughing matter.

In the castle, King Basil and his advisor Lady Malcolm are facing the harsh reality that Marigold doesn’t have much gold to keep order and peace. King Basil, who longs to marry for love, reluctantly takes Lady Malcolm’s advice and rides out into the kingdom in search of a wealthy bride but loses his way in the forest. He finds aid in the home of a widowed miller, Calvin, and his beloved daughter Annalease.

One day, while Calvin is delivering flour to the castle he brags about his daughter. The bragging turns to fibs, and when Lady Malcolm overhears Calvin claim his daughter can spin straw into gold, she thinks she has found the solution to the kingdom’s financial troubles. Little does she know, she is not the only one eavesdropping unseen.

Basil bonds with Annalease, using an alias, and the two get to know each other. When Calvin returns home fearing for his life, Annalease knows she must obey Lady Malcolm’s summons. But at the castle, she is put in a room full of straw with a spinning wheel and no clue how to use it. There is only one who knows how to spin straw into gold in Marigold. Will Annalease be forced to make a heavy bargain in order to get what is expected of her?
