Novella

I find it curious that there wasn’t an overview description for this book. This was more of a bdb world novella and should have been represented as such since it had no relevance to the series story lines. This one was like taking a wrong turn on the interstate, confused, stuck in the flow of the story looking for those familiar characters.

Book 17 ?

As a fan of the series it is nice to see new characters added however, what a huge let down that it is not actually book 17 but, just another J.R. Ward book about vampires that mentions the BDB. Not at all happy. What a let down after over a year waiting for the next book in the series.

Disappointed

Putting the Black Dagger Brotherhood name on this book is very deceiving! This is not book 17 in this series. The book has nothing to do with any members of the Brotherhood. I was looking forward to another glimpse into one or more of their lives and got nothing. I was very disappointed.

Not what I thought it would be...

This isn’t a true BDB book. I don’t understand how it was called #17. This is a story that has little to nothing to do with the BDB. A mediocre story in itself. I didn’t get caught up in the story or feel connected to the characters. The other BDB books I couldn’t not put down. This one was boring and drawn out, not J.R. Wards best work.

Not a Winner! No BDB in this story! Spoiler!

I was shocked. It felt like it was another series. Where were my guys? Wtf was this story. Maybe that’s why the publisher changes. Not worth the credit. It was very forgettable.
Spoiler. Woman needed to help stupid brother by killing a man for his release from a thug. Her brother was a bad apple and should of been held captive Or in jail. Then she bargain for the money owed but not his release, so the thug tells her to do one more thing if she wants to see her brother alive. Then she is sent on a wild goose chase with a captive man as her weapon ( big Brutus) who was turned in by his rapist dad to the protagonist. The bad dad is a Cult leader. Once freed they meet with big Brutus ex a shadow girl and the women try’s to find a jewel from the cult leader. The plot was stupid. The sex was rushed and outdoors like two dogs in heat with Brutus wearing a shock collar. I don’t even know if I will buy the book that comes out in a couple of months. Sorry the narrator was hoarse. Sometimes you couldn’t tell he was playing the woman. Normally he sounds sexy but this time he didn’t care. Not worth the credit. Sorry but it wasn’t.

I love a little BDB tease in between books. This was a pretty action packed story that kept me on my toes the entire book. Ahmare is a badass female lead character, she doesn't need any help, she just walks in guns ablaze! I loved how she put her brother and then Duran first. True female of worth ROFL ;)

Jim will ALWAYS be this series to me even if the BDB aren't in the books, he has to be the narrator imho!

Doesn’t fit the series; miss the regulars

I’m a real fan of the Black Dagger series and was sooo looking forward to this new one. Unfortunately it was a bit of a disappointment.
The story, by itself, is good. There’s action and romance, although I saw the ending coming a million miles away.
The real problem for me is that there was nothing of the Brotherhood in the book. There was none of the kind of goofy playfulness between the couple and no Brothers for the main character to banter with. I’m assuming he’s going to end up being a Brother in a subsequent book but the camaraderie was really missing here. It felt like a much darker, heavier book than others in the series.
So overall it’s okay as a stand-alone story but I don’t think it fits the series. I think it’s well written, as always, and performed well. It wasn’t what I was expecting and I kept waiting for the Brotherhood to make an appearance so I was disappointed.

Disappointed

Kind of short. Story line was ok but I love the brotherhood and they were missing.

How is this the next book in the BDB series? ☹

Had nothing to do with the BDB. Very misleading when advertising stated this was the NEXT book in the series. Very disappointed

More BDB Please!

Ward always says she has a hard time writing females but I didn’t find that to be the case at all with Ahmare. She was pretty awesome, she is determined to get her brother back. Even if that means taking a dangerous prisoner (Duran) who has been locked up for over 20 years with her.
They have to find and retrieve something for her brother to get released.

I loved Duran, he is exactly who you would think of when you think of someone who has been held against their will for that long.
But oddly positive, he knows who Ahmare is even is she doesn’t know it herself and he doesn’t begrudge her what she has to do to get her family back.

I loved the ups and downs, getting another Shadow only this time a female character was interesting and fun.

I really am enjoying the novellas where we are still in the world of BDB but none of the characters we already know and love.

I love the narrations; I am a fan of Jim for this series so I am thankful it was him who narrates for BDB. :)

how ist that a BDB-novel?

nice Story, but other than being set in vampireworld, there's no BDB-relation :'-(
i'm sure there is a bigger Plan to this but i'd have preferred News of our beloved Characters..
also: way too easy Outcome.
