Description

An inside look at what it really takes to become a better trader.

A proprietary trading firm consists of a group of professionals who trade the capital of the firm. Their income and livelihood is generated solely from their ability to take profits consistently out of the markets. The world of prop trading is mentally and emotionally challenging, but offers substantial rewards to the select few who can master this craft called trading.

In One Good Trade: Inside the Highly Competitive World of Proprietary Trading, author Mike Bellafiore shares the principles and techniques that have enabled him to navigate the most challenging of markets over the past twelve years. He explains how he has imparted those techniques to an elite desk of traders at the proprietary trading firm he co-founded. In doing so, he lifts the veil on the inner workings of his firm, shedding light on the challenges of prop trading and insight on why traders succeed or fail.

An important contribution to trading literature, the book will help all traders by:

  • Emphasizing the development of skills that are critical to success, such as the fundamentals of One Good Trade, Reading the Tape, and finding Stocks In Play.
  • Outlining the factors that really make the difference between a consistently profitable trader and one who underperforms.
  • Sharing entertaining, hysterical, and page turning stories of traders who have excelled or failed and why, many trained by the author, with an essential trading principle wrapped inside.

Becoming a better trader takes discipline, skill development, and statistically profitable trading strategies, and this book will show you how to develop all three.

To listen to !

Fantastic book about importants keys and mindset to succed in trading, which are not usually discussed in the Trading world. This book could seem long and with a lot of repeting, but its super important to do so, to implement the ideas in your life and/or in your trading, so the audio version is even better for this book than a paper version !

This book is more of an advertisement for their services

I actually looked up the authors company and read about what employees current and past had to say. Basically they said that he hasn't made money since the Internet boom, and the objective of the firm and this book is to sell their training courses and various other things they market. Well I don't think that's fair since there are some good insights in the book, it is clear that it is more an advertisement than anything else. In addition they keep talking about how much money they make and how great they are, and they don't mention that any trader who works for them basically has to put up a lot of their own money to participate 50-50 with the firm. I would be very suspect,I much prefer market wizards or reminiscences of the stock operator if you're really trying to learn how to trade.

You will not gain any Knowledge from this book

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Give me something to grasp. Everything is hypothetical, and do this , and do that.
This book was written, so the guy can say " i wrote a book ". Its filled with empty content.

Great book for any trader!

What made the experience of listening to One Good Trade the most enjoyable?

I really liked how the author would convey learning topics with real-life examples in the form of stories. He used actual people's hard learned lessons to teach the reader some things to do and some things not to do. The stories had depth and meaning and were enjoyable to listen to.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked how real the entire book felt. I feel like I now know Bella and Steve like they were my personal mentors. I feel like I could walk up to any person mentioned in the book and strike up a conversation like we were best buds from college. Most books on the stock market are very dry and hard to stay interested in but not "One Good Trade"! Out of the dozens of Trading books I have read/listened to this one is by far my favorite.

Which scene was your favorite?

Although it is hard to talk about an actual scene in this book I would have to say I liked how Bella would describe the different traders and their trading style. It was helpful for me to hear how different people had different styles of trading and what worked best for them.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

One Good Trade!

Any additional comments?

Great book, really one of the best books about trading out there. It has just enough teaching as it does story telling to keep me interested and coming back for more. I have listened to this book prolly 6-7 times in its entirety. It is that good.

A "kick in the pants" motivator. Truly inspiring.

I loved it and will be listening again and again. Taught me the nuts and bolts of thinking like a real, active professional trader.

A must read for all traders

a deeper look into the performance aspect of trading, and not just the heady stuff. very well written, and encouraging. all of the sports anecdotes really drive home the fact that trading is very much a performance based "sport!" I will read it a second time and move on to The Playbook.

Best one yet!

One good read .......

I almost declined to listen to this audiobook after reading the reviews because the ratings were mixed and because it would take 15 hours to know for myself. Most reviewers either loved it or disliked it.

Bella tells a complete story of how he and many with others became successful traders. He tells in great detail how they overcame psychological, financial and market driven obstacles. While telling the stories he drops many breadcrumbs along the way that require the reader to listen and absorb the details of the picture that he is painting.

The stories are written in a prop shop setting but 95% of this material carries over to personal intraday trading.

IMO if a struggling trader has the patience and focus to read this book from cover to cover and the ability to “hear” what Bella is attempting to convey then you likely have what it takes to make the journey of becoming a successful trader.

Only one caveat, a green wanna be trader with no experience to reflect on may not yet be able to understand or appreciate the narrative. So if you are a newbie then I recommend that you try your hand at trading first and when you fail like everyone else then come back and read this book.

It’s Just Okay

I finished listening to “One Good Trade” tonight and it was just okay. I actually wanted to learn more about trading.... some concepts and strategies perhaps. Instead it’s a LONG slog of a listen of stories about people that worked for Mike “Bella”’s firm. He gave all the people cute nicknames like “Hollywood” or “G-Man”.... frankly the listener does not care! I don’t care if a guy did not get hired because of some weird reason.... what I DO care about is trading and learning more about trading. So if you want to spend 15 hours of long drawn out stories about some traders who did or did not get hired then this book is for you. On a positive note... if you get past all the boring stories then there ARE some good tips and tricks if you listen carefully.

THE best TRADING book with tips and details!

Its not for the absolutely beginner but for investors and trader who are searching for the last missing peace.. for myself I found it in this book.

But I can recommend the other trading books too.. in every one you can find something.

What this book make itself standing out is: he talks about trading with details and many tips to improve. The other books don’t have that!

For „real“ trading it is the best book out there.
