I give this five stars with asterisks**

This was good book. I was worried the pacing would be rushed but I was not disappointed with the story or characters.

* When you realize there are no good guys but you are the bad guy.

** The dislike for our villain felt a little shoe horned like you catch the one you are meant to dislike them and are left to run with it.

*** I feel like this could have been a little longer with more detail.

**** Drip drip drip drip - it’s not the narrator’s fault they had to repeat that line so often but I was increasingly irritated each time it appeared (three drips would have been plenty)

I can't explain it

I loved it. everything about it was so.wthing I have been craving in a book. it was more than just smutt. it was love. AND THE TWIST!!!!

Mystery, passion, love...revenge! I enjoyed the characters and the wat the narrator brought them to life. Ugh, super sexy book with a good story ❤️

A slog to get through

I'm not sure if it's just the story itself that's mediocre, or if it's the narrator's performance that makes it even more stiff than it has to.

It was difficult to be engaged in the story when not much excitement is going on and all of the characters are boring. Having a cartoon villain doesn't help either.

If you don't mind the speech pattern where someone pauses after EVERY sentence then the narration would be maybe fine. Unfortunately, it really grates my nerves.

Besides that I found the voice or characterization for Marius odd. The narrator chose a cartoonish Dracula-esque voice for Marius which is annoying. The voice an especially weird choice when it's for the other main character who's sometimes described ti have a silky voice and is supposed to be a heart-throb for the POV character.

Good if you like a quick guilty pleasure read

But not quite what I was looking for, although I should've realized as much. The book is exactly what it's trying to be: romance and lust between two characters destined to be enemies in a slowly approaching doom setting, with a narrator fully into it. And if that's all you need, this book is probably for you!

Personally though, I felt there wasn't enough to the story. The worldbuilding left unanswered questions, which weren't necessarily important to the thin plot but confused me nonetheless. The characters' decisions and motives didn't always make much sense, or at least lacked in explanation. The narrator often got a bit too theatrical to my liking. But take this with a grain of salt if you will, as this review is coming from someone who enjoys her relationships much much more platonic.

The articulation, the intensity, and snark! This book had me on the edge of my seat all the way through. Dark and thrilling!

Narrator was stilting, much like William Shatner. It detracted from an otherwise good story. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it.
