Description

Ever since Emma read Pride and Prejudice, she's been in love with Mr. Darcy and has regarded Jane Austen as the expert on all things romantic. So, naturally, when Emma falls for Blake Hampton and he invites her home to meet his parents, she is positive an engagement is in her future. After all, Blake is a single man in possession of a good fortune, and thus must be in want of a wife.

But when it turns out that what Blake actually wants is more of a hook-up than a honeymoon, Emma is hurt, betrayed, and furious. She throws herself deeper into her work as CMO of Kinetics, the fastest growing gym franchise in the nation. She loves her work, and she's good at it, which is why she bristles when her boss brings in a consultant to help her spearhead the new facilities on the East Coast. Her frustration turns to shock when that consultant turns out to be Blake's younger brother, Lucas.

Emma is determined not to fall for Lucas, but as she gets to know him, she realizes that Lucas is nothing like his brother. He is kind and attentive and spends his time and money caring for the less fortunate.

What she can't understand is why Lucas continues to try to push her back into Blake's arms when he so clearly has fallen as hard for her as she has fallen for him. Realizing that her love life is as complicated as anything Jane Austen could have dreamed up, Emma must find a way to let Blake know that it's time for him to let her go and to let Lucas know it's time for him to love her back.

😁

This is such a great story. I loved how the author related everything back to Jane Austen or characters in Jane Austen books. The story is quirky, maddening at times and tender in others.
I enjoyed the voice the narrator gave this story. Justine Eyre did such a wonderful job.

Perfect for any Jane Austen fan!

I absolutely loved this book! I finished it in one day and could not stop! The Austen quotes made it all the more perfect.

Cute story but appallingly bad narration

Fun, cute, and clean romance. This was a nice change of pace for me after reading some heavier books. It's a pretty quick read too, so it hit the spot!

An unfortunate distraction was the narrator, Justine Eyre. She was so bad, just awful. It's like she was forcing her voice to be lower the whole time (not just when she was doing male voices, but the WHOLE time), so that each sentence ended in a forced, croaky sound. It was distracting and very annoying. And all of her male voices sounded exactly the same. I just cannot believe they couldn't find someone better to narrate this book. In the future I will avoid anything read by her.

A Simple Plot With Jane Austen Quotes

The book was such a light fluffy story and it has it own share of issues, I really like anything that is Austen related but this one wasn't what I expected .. its nice in its own way and I guess you can read it if you are in the mood for something that does not take much of your brain to follow
the narration was very good and I liked it

Light & Fun Romance

Light & a good homage to Jane Austen & her writing. It’s a clean romance with lots of references to Austen’s work & quotes that head each chapter. It doesn’t follow a particular Austen storyline although the vibe probably leans closest to P&P. I wasn’t 100% crazy about the narrator’s male voices but I got used to them & the 8.5 hours of the book were pleasantly spent.💕

Fun, sweet modern story...

This was a fun listen!! I typically have a REALLY hard time with this narrator (in fact I flat out refuse to listen to anything she’s narrating and put this book off for a loooong time simply because her accent and inflection is so distracting it makes me focus on her more than the story). But... as long as she’s NOT doing a British accent it wasn’t bad at all.

I felt the main character assumed too much, jumping to conclusions and then suddenly became level headed. That bothered me, but some of us are like that, aren’t we?

Overall, a fun, entertaining listen!

Clean read with a Jane overtone

I’ve read a lot of books some how related to loving Jane Austen. This is an interesting plot line with an opposite of what you usually get; the heroine is trying to “break up” with Austen.

Even if you’re not an Austen fan, I still think you’d enjoy this story as it’s not focused around one her stories, but does bring to focus her feminism for the day, her wit, and portrayal of characters. This is woven into various points along the story path, but does not overwhelm the story or make you feel left out if you’re not an Austen fan.

I think the story reminds us that we all have good and bad aspects of our personalities.

I’d definitely read another by this author.
