À propos de cette écoute
In the tradition of John Reed's classic Ten Days That Shook the World, this best-selling account of the collapse of the Soviet Union combines the global vision of the best historical scholarship with the immediacy of eyewitness journalism.

Commentaires
"A moving illumination.... Remnick is the witness for us all." ( The Wall Street Journal)
"An engrossing and essential addition to the human and political literature of our time." ( The New York Times)
"The most eloquent chronicle of the Soviet empire's demise published to date.... It is hard to conceive of a work that might surpass it." (Francine du Plessix Gray, Washington Post Book World)
It’s written with a clear Western perspective, which may color its interpretation of the events, yet the detailed stories and personal interviews makes it a credible and valuable resource for historical research.
While the content was slow-paced and far from interesting for someone with little knowledge of the names and personalities like me, the last chapters and conclusions I made was very interesting.
You could learn the logics and vision of the communist party, and the ideals they had fought for... and the very fact that you cannot change the mind and fabrics of a vast nation with such a long history into so called western democracy system just within few years or even a decade...
And the mere fact that while the system of governance fully collapsed and changed drastically, the corrupt intelligence services agency remained fully intact before and after the fall...with the same people and same structure.
Lesson learned: Make sure to fully dissolve any repressive intelligence services as a prerequisite to create a safe ground for reliable democracy to shape.
Well assembled work with extra-ordinary sources
