    Description

Beginning with Jesus' birth, Ken Bailey leads you on a kaleidoscopic study of Jesus throughout the four Gospels. Bailey examines the life and ministry of Jesus with attention to the Lord's Prayer, the Beatitudes, Jesus' relationship to women, and especially Jesus' parables.

Through it all, Bailey employs his trademark expertise as a master of Middle Eastern culture to lead you into a deeper understanding of the person and significance of Jesus within his own cultural context. With a sure but gentle hand, Bailey lifts away the obscuring layers of modern Western interpretation to reveal Jesus in the light of his actual historical and cultural setting.

This entirely new material from the pen of Ken Bailey is a must-have for any student of the New Testament. If you have benefited from Bailey's work over the years, this audiobook will be a welcome and indispensable addition to your library. If you are unfamiliar with Bailey's work, this audiobook will introduce you to a very old yet entirely new way of understanding Jesus.

One of the best resources on Jesus EVER

This is an incredible book. the insights Rev. Bailey provides on Jesus and the Gospels if frankly unsurpassed in my opinion. It is one of my all time favorite books and the audio version is superb and accessible to the average listener. This is a resources that no conscientious Christian can afford to miss. You will learn so much and understand who Jesus was and what He came to teach us. I cannot recommend this book more highly.

A "must" for better understanding of the Bible

This book makes the understanding of the Bible better for the reader who does not have the knowledge of Middle-Eastern culture and habits.

    Very cool!

Loved this book! Excellent discussion of Hebrew poetry devices/parallelism and how the study of chias serves as a hermeneutical tool. I recommend this book to everyone I can. All of Bailey’s books are worth reading

    Too much personal opinion

The book is written with a seemingly Catholic belief system. That I could get past, but when the author stated in chapter 2 that Joseph was able to turn his anger into grace that was more than I could get past. He made other assumptions that also have no biblical basis. I wasted a credit on a 'read' I was really looking forward to. I'll research the reviews in more depth next time.

    Informative and Insightful

Understanding cultural relevance and practices are critical when finding meaning in the Gospels. Bailey brings a more complete picture to our understanding, especially the Western understanding and interpretation of Scripture.
This book brought depth and meaning to my own understanding of the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Lloyd James did an outstanding job of narrating and often made me feel as if I were one of the bystanders to these stories and parables.

Excellent Insights Presented in a Pedantic Manner

This book has tremendous potential but it fails to live up to it because of the author's wooden format. It seemed clear that the book was 'assembled by taking the text of journal articles or speeches given at various times and places and virtually 'stitching' them together because the sections often repeated verbatim material presented in earlier chapters. It would have benefited greatly from having an editor go through it and take out those spots and make the material flow more smoothly. Also the author uses a particular prophetic poetic narrative construct to show parallel and emphasis but keeps reminding the reader every time of what he said the first time so it gets tedious.
All this detracts from. the excellent insights from .idle Eastern culture that struggles to shine through. A minus instead of A plus.

    Insightful

Well worth the listen. Gives fresh insights to stories we’ve grown up with. The narration is very well done with inflections that drive the points home.

Finally, a book that helps us understand Jesus

The narrator read it like it was his own book, and did it well. Easy to listen to and understand. It's a great book for everyone, but especially for pastors! So many of them avoid teaching on the Gospels themselves, and this could change everything.
