Many of us ache for relationship with God, yet feel distant and disconnected from him. As if he's more of an idea we believe in our head than a person we relate to. But God has a name: Yahweh. This one simple idea has the potential to radically alter how you relate to God, not as a doctrine, but as a relational being who responds to you in an elastic, back-and-forth way.

Christianity is the most enduring and influential legacy of the ancient world, and its emergence the single most transformative development in Western history. Even the increasing number in the West today who have abandoned the faith of their forebears, and dismiss all religion as pointless superstition, remain recognisably its heirs. Seen close up, the division between a sceptic and a believer may seem unbridgeable. Widen the focus, though, and Christianity's enduring impact upon the West can be seen in the emergence of much that has traditionally been cast as its nemesis.

Grace is the church's great distinctive. It's the one thing the world cannot duplicate, and the one thing it craves above all else - for only grace can bring hope and transformation to a jaded world. In What's So Amazing About Grace?, award-winning author Philip Yancey explores grace at street level. If grace is God's love for the undeserving, he asks, then what does it look like in action? And if Christians are its sole dispensers, then how are we doing at lavishing grace on a world that knows far more of cruelty and unforgiveness than it does of mercy?
Description
Beginning with Jesus' birth, Ken Bailey leads you on a kaleidoscopic study of Jesus throughout the four Gospels. Bailey examines the life and ministry of Jesus with attention to the Lord's Prayer, the Beatitudes, Jesus' relationship to women, and especially Jesus' parables.
Through it all, Bailey employs his trademark expertise as a master of Middle Eastern culture to lead you into a deeper understanding of the person and significance of Jesus within his own cultural context. With a sure but gentle hand, Bailey lifts away the obscuring layers of modern Western interpretation to reveal Jesus in the light of his actual historical and cultural setting.
This entirely new material from the pen of Ken Bailey is a must-have for any student of the New Testament. If you have benefited from Bailey's work over the years, this audiobook will be a welcome and indispensable addition to your library. If you are unfamiliar with Bailey's work, this audiobook will introduce you to a very old yet entirely new way of understanding Jesus.

Informative and Insightful
Understanding cultural relevance and practices are critical when finding meaning in the Gospels. Bailey brings a more complete picture to our understanding, especially the Western understanding and interpretation of Scripture.
This book brought depth and meaning to my own understanding of the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Lloyd James did an outstanding job of narrating and often made me feel as if I were one of the bystanders to these stories and parables.

Finally, a book that helps us understand Jesus
The narrator read it like it was his own book, and did it well. Easy to listen to and understand. It's a great book for everyone, but especially for pastors! So many of them avoid teaching on the Gospels themselves, and this could change everything.

How did I not know this?
This is one of the very best books I’ve ever read/listened to. Been a Christian for most of my life and looked at Jesus through western eyes.
The way Kenneth Bailey explained the cultural context of Jesus in the gospels is thoroughly insightful (way beyond my expectations), provided such depth of meaning and was SO well done! Wow!

Jesus Through Middle Eastern Eyes
Here's a top notch book that really illuminates the parables of the New testament. both scholarly and accessible, Kenneth Bailey uses modern-day examples and ancient history to help us better understand the Gospels from the cultural standpoint of the middle East! I learned a lot from this book, the narrator does a fine job, and I found the insights it contained very practical to my own relationship with Jesus.
