Description
She’s a fashion model who has everything: a boyfriend, a career, a loyal best friend. But when a sudden freeway "accident" leaves her disfigured and incapable of speech, she goes from being the beautiful center of attention to being an invisible monster, so hideous that no one will acknowledge she exists. Enter Brandy Alexander, Queen Supreme, one operation away from becoming a real woman, who will teach her that reinventing yourself means erasing your past and making up something better. And that salvation hides in the last places you’ll ever want to look.

not sure what to expect, this wasn't it. but better
the story wasn't what I thought it was going to be but was fascinating and it spoke to me on several levels. there have been several moments where I wanted to reinvent myself. this story is about rebirth. revenge and theft... well shady dealings.

Everyone should read this
This is a wild ride from start to finish. Chuck has an amazing way of making unlikable characters completely lovable. This was so unique and imaginative, written in a way that you couldn’t help but live in each character’s shoes and take a peek in their brain, which is raw and ugly but so relatable in every way. This story showed me the darker parts of my own soul, and I absolutely loved it. Thank you, Chuck Palahniuk.

One of my favorite Chuck Palahniuk books. I love him as an author and this is a fantastic story. Hard to follow at times but worth it.

Not everyone’s taste but intriguing all the same
One must irreversibly destroy the concept, and sometimes the physical form, of self to be truly free.

Offensive and Awful
Listening to this was a terrible experience. I don't understand how people can be okay with this story when it discusses trans people in such a hateful way. The story is so dumb with so many twists that make no sense and are just there for the heck of it. I hated this story with a burning passion.

Narrator abrasive
Narrator’s voice sounds pissed off. Not able to listen. Very dissatisfied. Read this book over a decade ago. Very interesting story and great writing by c.p. Narrator chosen sounds like a high school teacher with such an abrasive tone. Deleted and wishing for my credit back

Came For The Panic, Stayed For The Drama
I loved ‘A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out’ by Panic! At the Disco, and I was very excited to find out that the entire album was a pseudo love letter to this book. The story can be very confusing at first, but the jump forwards and jump backwards slowly become a rhythm and style that really help shape the story overall. The compare and contrasting emotions and events from the layered story telling rarely miss and I really enjoyed the purposeful shocking reveals. My only compliant is with all untrustworthy narrators, and that I’m stuck questioning everything until the end. I think it’s worth reading twice to really enjoy all the twists and turns.
