Do wish it was unabridged though. . .

I am a massive Ramsay fan. He has such a passion, intensity and energy for his work it is incredibly inspiring. His story was so genuine and heartfelt and I absolutely loved it.
Also, not always the case when an author narrates their own story - I found his narration to be superb.

Humble Ramsay

A candid look into the early years of Gordon Ramsay. This was a great listen narrated by the author. Fingers are crossed for an Unabridged version.

Gordon Ramsay Revealed

What did you love best about Humble Pie?

Gordon Ramsay is so much more than his over-bearing, sometimes caustic personality. Listening to his story gave an understanding of why he is so driven and holds such high expectations. It also shows that he has just as big a heart as his personality.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Humble Pie?

He lets us in to so much of his early personal life. His issues with his dad and how that shaped who he became spoke to me.

What does Gordon Ramsay bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is so kind of a person and that doesn't always come through when you watch his shows. Also, that he is such a strong person who has overcome adversity to come out on top.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I was lucky enough to be on a road trip and could listen to it in one sitting. I didn't stop as often as I normally would because I wanted to finish it.

Interesting Insight but Not a Tell All Biography

Would you consider the audio edition of Humble Pie to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print version but I would immediately answer yes. Gordon has such a unique way of delivering his thoughts that having him narrate his own book is what truly makes it entertaining and worth listening to. As with many, I enjoy when an author narrates their own book and this is no different. It felt like I was being told stories instead of reading a book about someone's life. I would have preferred to hear the unabridged version but it was still enjoyable. Some of his stories went into great detail while others just touched the surface: this was not a tell all autobiography as many would desire but it does give some background into Gordon Ramsay's life that otherwise would have been unknown to me. Being such a big fan of him, I was happy to get to know a little more about the real person he is.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed hearing about Gordon's childhood. In his most formative years he had to deal with issues that are not easy and often lead to people taking a very dark path in life, as was the case with his brother. To hear about how this helped fuel his passion gave a little insight into what makes him tick.

What about Gordon Ramsay’s performance did you like?

Gordon's performance was great and I think made the book enjoyable. Any other narrator would not have done it justice.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Hell's Kitchen!

If you respect one of the world's top chefs, you will enjoy Gordon's autobiographical account of his rise to stardom. Funny yet touching.

A total snooze!!!

Let me start by saying that I think Gordon Ramsay is a national treasure. As a serious home cook myself, I am interested to find out what it's like to be a chef. So it was terribly disappointing to listen to this book. Just 3 hours of boredom. It did pickup in the end. I do read a lot of chef memoirs and everyone has had something redeeming. Eric Ripert's was fascinating because it gave us an inside look of what it was like to work for Joel Robuchon, a mich 3 star chef. Anthony Bordain gave us an unfiltered look at what's it like to work inside a kitchen. All of Michael Ruhlman's books are incredible reads. Marcus Samuelson's book gave us a view into the evolution of a chef. However, Gordan's mere 3 hour book had nothing to do with cooking at all. It felt like it was written in between episodes of Hell's Kitchen. He did talk about his attention to detail in his cooking which I believe, however that same attention did not make its way into his book which is a shame. I really wanted to learn about the genius that is Gordon Ramsay. I can't believe this book is rated 4.4 stars.

Would prefer unabridged

Quick, interesting listen. I didn't feel that it dug particularly deep- I am left wondering what was left out of this abridged version. Good recollections and insider thoughts, but it felt like 90% of this was simply name-dropping. I don't know enough to fill the gaps.

Love Gordon Ramsay, but wish it was unabridged.

This book was fantastic, and I was so pleased to hear it read by Gordon himself. I could not imagine any of these stories being told in another voice. I do wish this were offered in an unabridged format though, I could tell there was more to this book that I want to experience. That being said, I would recommend this title to anyone who is a fan of Gordon Ramsay, and a fan of great food in general. This is not a book about cooking however it is more a book about the long but yet unfinished journey of one of the most well known chefs in the world. It covers his triumphs and his failures and follows his tumultuous childhood, Giving us incredible insight into what drives a child from a broken home to become the man Gordon Ramsay.
