In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

From number-one New York Times best-selling author, legendary storyteller, and master of short fiction Stephen King comes an extraordinary collection of four new and compelling novellas - Mr. Harrigan's Phone, The Life of Chuck, Rat, and the title story If It Bleeds - each pulling you into intriguing and frightening places.
Description
The spectacular finale to the New York Times best-selling trilogy that began with Mr. Mercedes (winner of the Edgar Award) and Finders Keepers
2017 Audie Award Finalist for Fiction and Best Male Narrator
In End of Watch, the diabolical "Mercedes Killer" drives his enemies to suicide, and if Bill Hodges and Holly Gibney don't figure out a way to stop him, they'll be victims themselves.
In Room 217 of the Lakes Region Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic, something has awakened. Something evil. Brady Hartsfield, perpetrator of the Mercedes Massacre, where eight people were killed and many more were badly injured, has been in the clinic for five years, in a vegetative state. According to his doctors, anything approaching a complete recovery is unlikely. But behind the drool and stare, Brady is awake and in possession of deadly new powers that allow him to wreak unimaginable havoc without ever leaving his hospital room.
Retired police detective Bill Hodges, the unlikely hero of Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers, now runs an investigation agency with his partner, Holly Gibney - the woman who delivered the blow to Hartsfield's head that put him in the brain injury ward. When Bill and Holly are called to a suicide scene with ties to the Mercedes Massacre, they find themselves pulled into their most dangerous case yet, one that will put their lives at risk as well as those of Bill's heroic young friend, Jerome Robinson, and his teenage sister, Barbara. Brady Hartsfield is back and planning revenge not just on Hodges and his friends but on an entire city.
In End of Watch, Stephen King brings the Hodges trilogy to a sublimely terrifying conclusion, combining the detective fiction of Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers with the heart-pounding supernatural suspense that has been his best-selling trademark. The result is an unnerving look at human vulnerability and chilling suspense. No one does it better than King.

Grieving the end of trilogy
It took me a long time to get to this Trilogy because it seemed out of character for Stephen King. I don't usually like Mysteries however once I started I was completely transported into the world of mr. Mercedes and the characters thereof. I kept listening and didn't want to listen because I knew it was going to end. How I love to these Box if I could give them 10 stars I would and I believe it is some of his absolute best work

The best of a great Trilogy
The saga of retired cop turned private eye Bill Hodges concludes in “End of Watch.” Once again Mr. Hodges and partner Holly are confronted with another scheme by Brady Hartsfield, the deranged homicidal maniac that was dubbed “Mr. Mercedes,” but this time it’s on a supernatural level.
Room 217 holds a special place for Stephen King; it’s that room number mentioned in the “Shining,” and also the room in the Stanley Hotel that Stephen King stayed in before he wrote the famous story. Now it is the room in the Lakes Region Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic where Brady Hartsfield resides supposedly in a vegetated state; but we know from “Finders Keepers,” that Bill Hodges has his doubts.
Stephen king uses his mastery weaving real life horror with the supernatural and creates a fast paced riveting story that I believe is the best of the three.
Will Patton’s narration is great, as usual.

END Of WATCH...FANTASTIC!
Wish this series could have been longer. SUCH an intelligent thrilling/horrifying ( true King mastery ) listen! Narration perfect! Each character had their own unique voice. SUCH strong, cohesive protagonists! Brady was well done, too! Never ending twists and turns, all while waiting to see what was coming next makes this series ender particularly enjoyable.
"End Of Watch" has jolted me into prioritizing, and making a point to slow down, and really tuning into the people around me. Something as small as asking someone how they are doing, and just listening, could make all the difference in not only their lives, but also in the lives of those that may be directly affected by their future actions.
Thanks again, for another great series, Mr. King.:)

such a wonderful end to an amazing tale
this was probably my favorite of the 3 books in the series.... which is strange because my favorite character has all these added issues. still, loved it!!
I wouldn't say this was King horror, and I'm glad. I absolutely LOVE King's writing style. it's rich and so very easy for me to "see" in my head. I enjoy the direction he's taken as the years have rolled on. recommend this series to King fans as well as those who haven't fallen in love with him yet.

The end of a wonderful trilogy!
If you could sum up End of Watch in three words, what would they be?
Suspenseful, engaging, masterful
What other book might you compare End of Watch to and why?
As in most of King's books, there is scarcely anything to which it can be compared.
What about Will Patton’s performance did you like?
Will Patton is my favorite narrator of audiobooks. He invests great energy into his reading and brings life to the characters
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
The saga reaches a powerful conclusion
Any additional comments?
I am not alone in the feeling of sadness at the conclusion of this trilogy. The characters are memorable and I would like to read more about those who remain at the end. Where do they go from here?

Wow. Will Patton.
I like his acting a lot, but I may like his narration better. As for SK ... I feel inadequate trying to describe what he pulls out of me with his books. What an unlikely band of white nights in this trilogy! But SK works magic with them, and the personality Patton gives to each and every character is nothing short of genius.

End of an amazing trilogy
I absolutely loved this book, I went through it in one day!
Mr. King proves again that he can write in just about any genre he wants to (although I don't think that was his intention, he writes what comes to him and not much else) without any problems with characters or plot flow.
I was sad that this is the last book because of the amazing characters in this story, I have read (or listened, I have both the audio and the books) these books three times now, minus "End of Watch" due to it's being released today and loved them each time.
To bring this to a close I will say this: Buy this book if you have read the other two first. If not? Go back and get "Mr. Mercedes," then "Finders Keepers," before this book. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. This is Stephen King at his best! Believe It!

Great Finale with a soft undertone
Stephen King is an excellent story teller and with "End of Watch" he brought the "Bill Hodges Trilogy" to a great finale. While the first 2 novels were a little bit unusual as far as crime stories go, End of Watch has an additional touch of the supernatural, which I thought is quite superfluous, but it is so skillfully woven into the narrative that it did not spoil the story for me.
Bill Hodges, the die-hard old cop and Holly Gibney, the smart autistic young lady, are back again. Together they run a little private detective agency " Finders Keepers". Bill finally lost a lot of weight, but somehow he does not feel well. Holly is worried. Bill is not just a business partner, he is more than that, he gave her life real meaning again. The thought of losing him, drives her crazy. But Bill has other worries apart from his health issues.
Brady Hartsfield, the insane killer, who ran over and killed 8 innocent people and who tried to blow up hundreds of teenagers during a pop concert, is somehow creating trouble again, even in his current position, severely handicapped and locked up in a Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic. A series of unexplained suicides, some of them in the direct vicinity of Brady, make Bill wonder, he just can't figure out, how Brady would do that.
It is a complex and fascinating story and it gets under your skin, whether you like it or not. It is not just the gripping suspense and the exposure to human pain and suffering, for me it is also the emotional touch, which makes it such a great story. The multifaceted relationship between Bill and Holly, the deep and unusual love and respect for each other, are hard to find in other Stephen King books.
It is a great book, but if you did not do it yet, read the 2 other books of the trilogy first

Original premise of trilogy lost
overall, a fine book. My only problem with it is that it strayed too far from the first (and best) book in the series.
