Description

Greyson East left his mark on me.

As the young girl who first fell for him, I didn’t know much about life. I did know about his smiles, though, and his laughs, and the strange way my stomach flipped when he was near.

Life was perfect…until it wasn’t, and when we were forced to go our separate ways, I held on to our memories, let go of my first crush, and wished for the day I’d find him again.

When my wish came true, it was nothing like I imagined.

I couldn’t have known when I took the nanny position that it would be his children I looked after, that my new boss would be that boy I used to know, that boy who was now a man - a cold, lonely, detached man.

The smile and laugh I had loved so much were gone, now distant memories. Every part of him was covered in a fresh pain.

When he realized who I was, he made me promise to do my job and my job only.

He made me promise not to try to get to know him, not to recall the memories I’d treasured all this time.

But, sometimes, I saw the boy I’d once known in his stormy eyes. I saw the Greyson who smiled and laughed, who had stolen a young girl’s heart, and there was no doubt in my mind that this boy was worth fighting for.

I was given a second chance with the one who’d left his mark on me. All I hoped was that somehow I’d leave a mark on his soul, too.

Eleanor & Grey

I can’t remember the last time I had to stay up late to finish a book.
This book was exactly that. I had no idea what I was going to get when I started this book. I knew I would get one heck of a story as all of Brittainy’s books are amazing but I wasn’t expecting that.

I don’t know if it’s the content or what but I was overly emotional throughout this whole book I had a constant stream of tears. It was more the story than negative things happening if that makes sense, I got so invested in these characters that their hard times hit me in my feels.

I was rooting for these two but also for the children they really stole the show and how everyone was hurting from something and how they could also be there for one another well it was truly special.

My heart will mend, the story left me with a smile and hope and that is all anyone can ask for.

I loved the narration I have nothing but good things to say about both of these narrators they really do give these characters life. There is no other word for it.

Thank you to Brittainy, Erin, and Angelo for just everything that you do.

Have your tissue box ready!!!

The story was absolutely wonderful! It was so heartfelt, I lost my mom when I was 16 so this hit home for me. Erin was amazing as usual this was my first time hearing the male narrator and it wasn’t my favorite, but it was ok.

Overall it’s worth the credit for sure!!!

Loved/Hated

I loved the story! The biggest issue I had was with the female narrator. Every last word in a sentence she would drag the end of the word out. Drove me absolutely insane. I twitched every time she did it but kept listening because I was loving the book. I never want to hear Eleanorrrrrrrrrr said ever again.

2019 Favorite. DON'T PASS THIS ONE UP!

This book. Holy Banana Pants! It was SOOOO good.

Ever since this book came out, I've been hearing nothing but good things about it. Because of the over-hype, I was almost put off from reading it. I randomly saw it on audible escape a few days ago and started it. Erin Mallon is my favorite female narrator, which only helped my decision to pick it up. This was The. Best. Decision. I. Have. Made. In. Months!

I would have to say this book was almost as perfect as romance books can get. It had every single thing you need in a story to pull on your heartstrings and make you become obsessed. These characters became some of my favorite people I have ever read about.

Brittainy C. Cherry - you are a goddess. You have become one of my favorite authors with this book and I can not wait for Landon and Shay's books. You have no idea what you did with this book. All the over-hype is not even enough.

He was him, I was me, and we were us...

***Spoilers ahead***

THE STORY:
In all the years I've been reading romance, I've never had the feeling that the heroine was ever "second-best" to a widower with kids (because let's be honest, that's how most of these stories go, if there's a widower, there's at least one kid around). But now I get it. I do. Because this is precisely how I felt while reading this book.

The important factor here is that the H and h knew and loved each other BEFORE the H meets his wife later on.

Usually (or at least from what I've read before), the Hero would meet his wife first but have no real feelings for her. Due to an unplanned pregnancy or something, he's forced or wants to get married and try for the sake of the baby. So scenario A is where the H is trapped in a loveless marriage. Scenario B would be where the H and wife love each other but eventually fall out of it. Their marriage isn't what they thought it would be.
OR the wife turns out to be a complete b****. I DON'T KNOW.
Then the wife would die at some point and the h finally comes into the picture.

But this book... I really can't remember a book where the H genuinely grieved over a wife he loved so dearly, making me feel like the heroine was only second-best.

If I think about it a little more, the timeline in this was also really bad.
In June 2003, Ellie (16) and Grey (17) meet for the first time and fall in love.
At the end of November 2003, Ellie and her family move to Florida, but the H and h still stay in contact until around September 2004.
Fast forward to 2019, and they're now 32/33 years old. The H has 2 kids and his eldest daughter is already 14, which means the H had her when he was 19! Only ∼1 year after he and Ellie lost contact. That means he met his wife like really, REALLY early, it was probably love at first sight and they had a baby right after.

And this right there ALSO didn't sit very well with me. Absolutely not. I know Ellie & Grey were young but I wholly believed in their love and rooted for them so freaking hard! I mean the author practically MADE me, they were supposed to be the real deal and then BAM 1-2 years later and both already moved on. Especially the Hero.

"I love you, Ellie. I know it's bad timing, and I know I probably shouldn't say it, but I love you. I love everything about you, even the parts you think are too sad to be loved. I think those parts are the most beautiful. I think all the parts of you are perfect, and I just wanted you to know that you are the first person I've ever loved and it's easy to do it. It's so easy to love you." - Grey to Ellie when they were 17/18

Do you see my problem? I feel cheated. I feel cheated on behalf of the heroine. Because later when they meet again, it was all about the H grieving over his dead wife. I know, 1 year is nothing compared to the 13/14 years he spent with his wife but did he really have to love his wife so much? Couldn't the author choose any of the other options listed above? The guilt over the accident would have been enough to move the story along WITHOUT cheapening Ellie's and Grey's love for each other.

Ugh, this is so difficult. I don't have a lot to say about the good stuff tbh, but not because there weren't any but because I can't find the right words for them. I don't have a poetic bone in my body so all I can say is that, even though the book had its problems, this is a HIT-YOU-RIGHT-IN-THE-FEELS kind of book. I enjoyed it for the most part but that issue with the heroine being second best was such a big thing in here that the romance fell totally flat for me. 3 Stars

THE NARRATION:
The narration of both Erin Mallon and Angelo Di Loret was fine. No complaints here!

My heart is so full

There are less than 5 books (more like 3 I think) that have made me cry like a baby, like ugly cry.. and this just made that list.. marry me Greyson.. book hubby..
all the emotions and more. The only thing I would have liked was just a little of the story of how Greyson and Nicole came to be.. feel like that was the only thing part of the story that was missing..

Misery fest

I didn’t like this story. For 90% of it Eleanor had bad thing after bad thing happen to her. She was second place to her dad and certainly second place for Greyson as well. I kept wanting her to go out on her own and find someone who would put her first and love her like she deserved. Great idea for a story but it was poorly developed.
The narration was very good though.
