Description
Stuck with her off-limits, taciturn, hunky movie star client during a sudden snowstorm on Christmas Eve, an extremely capable and highly professional bodyguard must keep him alive and warm without letting the tension building between them get too hot.
Bathsheba (Beth) Ryan can’t thank her best friend enough for helping her land the job of her dreams. After being relegated to second-string security for politicians in DC, being hired as an undercover personal security specialist by a giant Hollywood studio is exactly the kind of action she's always wanted.
Until she meets her first assignment.
Cyrus Malcom can’t thank his agent enough for arranging a blind date with seemingly the woman of his dreams. After spending the past several years playing all the parts and climbing all the ladders, the lonely mega movie star finds himself actually enjoying a night on the town for the first time in ages when he meets the gorgeous, funny, and genuine Ryaine O’Rourke.
Until she shows up at his studio meeting the next day with a completely different name.
A world-wide press tour and too many late-night parties later, Beth simply needs to get through a short, one-day visit during the Christmas holiday, and then she’ll be free of Cyrus Malcom’s confusing hot looks and cold shoulders for good.
But just as they leave the airport, it starts to snow....
Drama King is the second book in the Three Kings Series, is a full-length, contemporary romantic comedy, and can be listened to as a complete standalone.

Oh so good!
This book was so, so good. The first thing I did after finishing was listen to it again. The character development of the male lead was phenomenal and the end of the book took my breath away. Not the usual predictable ending. Joy Nash is my all time favorite female narrator and the male narrator was excellent as well. I seriously will probably listen to it again. Love some Penny Reid!

Penny Reed delivers again
Excellent read as always! Great character development and so hilariously funny. I also loved that the main female character was a competent bodyguard.

Favorite book in the 12 months
All of Penny Reid’s books are great, but this one, this one might be my favorite. (Followed by Beauty and the Mustache).
The MMC is my perfect book boyfriend. And how the FMC sees him is so much different than what’s going on in his head. He’s funny and charming and sweet and kind and awesome. But also a little messed up. In a hilarious way.
If the male narrator doesn’t get nominated for every performance award, it’ll be a supreme injustice. Maybe I’ll start a write-in campaign immediately. I love Penny Reid’s other male narrators, especially Chris Brinkley, and her female narrators are always great, but this guy was outstanding. A damn joy to listen to. I stopped for a day when there were only two hours left becauseI didn’t want it end. Story-wise and performance-wise.
BTW, the story was wonderful.
Please, Penny Reid, please I beg of you, give these two another story. It could be their wedding, or Christmas, or vacationing in Tennessee while visiting other movie stars. Anything! I can’t let them go yet!
Do yourself a favor, read or listen to Drama King, then read all of Penny Reid’s other books. You’ll thank me.

Expected Better
It was extremely hard to get to like these characters. We are already halfway through the book before any personal information is revealed. Despite how 'professional, honest, and upfront' with her boss Beth is, she doesn't convey that she is attracted or personally invested in Cyrus from the very beginning? That seems more important than just seeing him naked. I expected better from Penny Reid. Her characters are usually likable, relatable, and easy to root for, especially the female lead. Hope the next book revives my love for this series.

cute, probably wouldn’t revisit
3.5 stars! it was cute but whether it was where my brains at or with the book, i couldn’t focus on it. it felt like a lot and a little all going on at the same time. ot was cute and in penny reid style but i just wasn’t 100% there.
i enjoyed the first in the series and was so excited to listen to this second one but it just wasn’t it. cyrus wasn’t as lovable as i thought he’d be and he read a little annoying to me. i just wasn’t his biggest fan. beth was fun and strong, which reid does a great job at writing but it all just felt like roller coasters to me. a little unbalanced.
i love joy nash reading these penny reid novels but i did not like ryan lee dunlap in this. i’m sorry but i miss chris brinkley. he just had it down and i’ve probably gotten used to his voice when listening to these novels by penny reid.
cute book, probs wouldn’t revisit. interested to see who the leads are in the next one (unless i’ve missed that).

Who wrote this?
This wasn’t written by the Penny Reid I know and beloved. There was no character development or very much wit and romance. No chemistry between the main characters. I skipped chapter just to finish it because I purchased it. Not sure I’ll read more by her. I truly loved her style. is she’s writing these or someone else?

Love PR but this was a miss
The first in the series was awesome but this second book had zero chemistry between the characters and they had no charm as individuals. Made it hard to care about them getting together. Maybe it would’ve been more enjoyable if Joy Nash read it alone.

Not like her others
Didn’t enjoy this one nearly as much as I expected for a Penny Reid novel. I was not a huge fan of the male narrator.

No chemistry. Lame story. Wimpy Hero.
There was no chemistry between the H&H. There was no romance until the last hour & a half and it was not good.
The Hero is mild, meek, & wimpy. This story reads like an early work. I kept turning it off. The female narration by Dunlap was horrible.
This book is not worth the credit or $. It is a shame because the first book in the series "Homecoming King" was good....
