A great story and an even better narrator.

I hope I get to hear more Dr Who stories narrated by Colin McFarlane. He did a great job with the different voices and held your attention.

Creepy

Besides having the rare view being seen through the eyes and mind through one of the doctors "charges" this is the first story I found really creepy not just the monsters but humans and their societyreally held up a mirror sorta

12th Doctor Awesomeness!

This was a great listen. Both author and narrator captured the Doctor brilliantly. I wasn't a huge fan of the narrator's voice for Clara, but it wasn't too bad. The POV character is the Doctor's jailer, which as you can imagine is an incredibly frustrating position. One of the better Doctor stories I've read/listened to.

Good story, weird writing style

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes, lose the first person narrative.

Any additional comments?

I actually liked this story and the reader was adequate. Although I personally found the choice to write the story in the first person viewpoint of character who was neither a companion or the Doctor to be rather odd and it did have a slight negative effect on my ability to really enjoy the story as I prefer the third person style that most Doctor stories are written in.

A worthy addition to the mythos

Great performance, fun story, interesting POV for the story that added quite a bit too the tone. The characters were spot on and Clara is my favorite companion now.

Instead of mysterious tension, it's monotonous

Is there anything you would change about this book?

It is written from the POV of a moronic politician almost obsessed with procedure. This causes what should be mysterious tension to become monotonous causing agitation and irritability. perhaps if the character was even slightly more curious as to current happenings it would cause less impatience with the story

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

no

Any additional comments?

at the end of the day the book is still a doctor who story so it is passible. but i would not recommend it over any of the other many doctor who stories i've read.

I really didnt like the choice of narrator

It could have been so much better if only the writer had chose other point of view to write from. But in the way it is, some parts got me confused and others are just boring.

very good story with outstanding narrator

I loved the narrator, first to say.

I was very surprised by the book’s perspective, since it is written in first-person, told through “the Governor”, the administrator of the prison where this story takes place. It was odd at first, but refreshingly different.
During the first half of the story, I found the Doctor not acting very 12-ish but more 11-ish – but, to be fair, I now have a lead of 1 1/2 seasons No 12 and Clara over the author. The second half was very much 12 as he would act on TV.
I liked the sparse appearances of Clara (not because I don’t like Clara at all, but because she lighted the story up without acting as Super-Clara – like o TV and in the last half of the book). But that most likely depends on everyone’s individual fondness for her. If you like her behaviour more, you’ll probably disappointed by her just waving placards from time to time. Concerning Clara, the author absolutely nailed it. I especially liked her mentioned problem with the Doctor suddenly looking old, as that was so TV-Clara.
