    Description

An Amazon Charts, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestseller.

From Dean Koontz, the master of suspense, comes an epic thriller about a terrifying killer and the singular compassion it will take to defeat him.

“Canine or human, it is hard to find a more lovable character in fiction than Kipp. Devoted has every mark of a classic.” - Associated Press

Woody Bookman hasn’t spoken a word in his eleven years of life. Not when his father died in a freak accident. Not when his mother, Megan, tells him she loves him. For Megan, keeping her boy safe and happy is what matters. But Woody believes a monstrous evil was behind his father’s death and now threatens him and his mother. And he’s not alone in his thoughts. An ally unknown to him is listening.

A uniquely gifted dog with a heart as golden as his breed, Kipp is devoted beyond reason to people. When he hears the boy who communicates like he does, without speaking, Kipp knows he needs to find him before it’s too late.

Woody’s fearful suspicions are taking shape. A man driven by a malicious evil has set a depraved plan into motion. And he’s coming after Woody and his mother. The reasons are primal. His powers are growing. And he’s not alone. Only a force greater than evil can stop what’s coming next.

"Readers who were wondering how Koontz could possibly follow up his remarkable Jane Hawk series can breathe a sigh of relief. His new novel finds him still at the top of his game…Scary, sickening (in that good way), and touching, this is a novel that will delight both the author's legion of fans and those who finally decide it's time to find out what this guy Koontz is all about." Just a rehash.

I guess I'm in the minority but I'm just... tired of the endless rehashing of the same characters and plot over and over again for no purpose. I mean, this is basically an extremely sentimental mashup of the Moonlight Bay series with Next Door to Heaven. There's really no connection to Watchers other than intelligent golden retrievers. You know what would have been great? An actual sequel to Watchers, or an actual new Moonlight Bay book. Because both of those had awesome stories and characters. This book had no story whatsoever... I was actually surprised when it wrapped up because I felt like all that had been done up to that point was to set up for the story to begin, but it never really did. The characters were bland rehashes of other, better, Koontz characters. I'm afraid this one has got to be returned.

I usually love Dean Koontz but....

this just felt like he phoned it because he had a book due. This book is a re-hash of Watchers with a bit of update thrown in. None of the characters are fully developed except the dog. There were times when I literally had to check to make sure I was not listening to an old novel. There are very few books I have ever returned for credit, but I am going to do it with this one. I have NEVER felt this way about a Koontz novel. For a while I felt he was slipping a bit, but his latest books about Nameless and Jane Hawk have been amazing. This one was just tired and rehashed. Sorry, wanted to love it, but I was really disappointed.

    Excellent Narration, Mediocre Story

Edoardo Ballerini is an excellent narrator, and he makes any book better. I am a long-time fan of Dean Koontz, but this was a little too sappy and preachy for me. I love the idea of highly-intelligent dogs and the "feel goods" that go along with all of that. Having it wrapped up in a story about evil people is very entertaining. I'm familiar with the tone of his books, but this one was just a little too much for me. I recommend this if you're looking for something semi-light with evil v. good and really smart, brave, and loyal dogs. If you want something darker with more substance, this probably isn't the book for you.

    The Best Of Koontz

For every canine lover, this story is for you. I feel it is a love letter to the authors love of his long time companion and best friend. A wonderful tribute to all canine lovers everywhere.&

great book, reader easy to listen to

haven't listened to Koontz in awhile because they can get bit dark. This book had a easy flow and didn't drag on. he took the time to develop his characters.

Well, I WAS a Koontz Fan

This was the most ridiculous book I’ve ever come across. The entire story was stupid and the book was a total waste of a credit. It would have been a total waste of fire if someone burned it. I kept waiting for “the good part” to come, but it never did.

    Disappointing

I have read, and now listened, to almost every book—with the exception of the Frankenstein series and more than two of the Odd Thomas series, that Dean has written. While looking forward to this book because it seemed like a continuation of my most beloved book by him, Watchers, I was extremely disappointed in this one—particularly toward the end when Dean seemed to throw everything he could possibly IMAGINE into the last 10 or so chapters, that was just unfathomable with what seemed like hoards of dogs and people descending from the upstairs of the house, that just appeared mysteriously without any explanation whatsoever.

While there is more that I found unsettling about the story, the thing that was most annoying from somewhat near the beginning is the language that Dean used, which for HIM seemed unusually crude and unnecessary...from the MOST prolific and best character-developers of all writers, that I know of!

Hope he hasn’t lost it. Unfortunately, this is the first, and hopefully last, of his books that will turn in for a credit

    Awesome!

This was the best book I have listened to for quite some time. I love Dean Koontz for incorporating golden retrievers into many of his stories. There were aspects for all readers in this book, horror, supernatural, suspense , love stories, sadness and great joy. Dean Koontz is by far my favorite author since the Odd Thomas series and he keeps getting even better. Please keep it up!

    crude and offensive

the story and the narrator were good. the inner dialogue of the "bad guy" was crass, crude and offensive. stopped reading.

Very much like The Watchers (one of my favorites) but it wimps out at the end.

    Hmm …

… Horrmantic, if it’s written for teenagers there’s a little bit to much details in the gruesome parts. If it’s written for the average aged adult, it’s a bit over the top fictional romantic.
It’s not the best Mr. Koontz had delivered here.
