Gene-editing has gone mainstream. Cancer can be erased, limbs regrown—but of course, people are mostly just using the tech for vanity, paying fortunes to become ‘Goblin Girls’, ‘Troll Men’, or Greek-God versions of themselves—just with a simple procedure.
Max has never seen the appeal in ‘alterations’, but he starts to wonder if he’s falling behind when he notices everyone around him seeming so… perfect. The technology is simple. The changes are everywhere. And the pressure to compete feels suffocating.
It doesn’t matter, because down-on-his-luck Max will never be able to afford a life-changing alteration… And then he unexpectedly finds himself inside of the lab-factory where the alterations are made. While nobody is looking he snags an alteration kit to make himself into a muscular superman.
