Welcome to today’s Bible study.

In this episode of 1 Samuel 5 (KJV), we continue our verse-by-verse journey through the book of 1 Samuel as the Philistines discover that the God of Israel cannot be defeated or dishonored. This chapter highlights God's supreme authority, His holiness, and His power over false gods.

The chapter begins with the Philistines placing the captured ark of the covenant in the temple of their god Dagon. The next morning, Dagon is found fallen before the ark, and after being set back in place, he falls again with his head and hands broken off, demonstrating the Lord's complete victory over idols.

The Lord then strikes the people of Ashdod with affliction, causing fear throughout the Philistine cities. As the ark is moved from Ashdod to Gath and then to Ekron, each city experiences God's judgment, bringing panic and suffering wherever the ark is taken.

The chapter concludes with the Philistines realizing that the hand of the Lord is against them, preparing to return the ark rather than continue to endure His judgment.

Through this chapter, we see key lessons about God's sovereignty, the futility of idolatry, His holiness, and the certainty that no false god can stand before Him.

Together, we will study this chapter verse by verse, exploring its historical context, theological depth, and spiritual lessons about God's power, holiness, judgment, and His authority over all nations.
