Three full-cast adaptations of Margaret Forster's novels

Margaret Forster was an English novelist, biographer, memoirist, historian and critic, best known for the 1965 novel Georgy Girl, which was made into a successful film and inspired a hit song by The Seekers.

A lifelong feminist and socialist, most of her works address these themes, and her world view was ‘shaped by her sense of her working-class origins: most of her stories were about women's lives.’

This collection brings together full-cast BBC Radio productions of three of her novels:

Georgy Girl – Georgy is wonderfully sparky, funny and financially independent. She's living in the swinging London of 1965 but she's twenty-seven and never been asked out by a fella, let alone kissed. She's desperate to fall in love; and may be surprised at the form that takes. Dramatised by Rhiannon Tise, starring Lucy Speed, Paul Ready, Stephen Critchlow and Philippa Stanton.

Private Papers – Rosemary finds some papers, written by her mother, hidden at the back of a drawer. They contain her mother's version of their family history. Rosemary secretly adds her own views. Dramatised by Juliet Ace, starring Angela Pleasence, Nichola McAuliffe, Gemma Kelly, Jenny Funnell and Jessica Lloyd.

Lady’s Maid – This much acclaimed novel tells the story of Elizabeth Barrett Browning's maid, Lily Wilson, who worked for the Brownings for many years. Arriving in 1844, Lily's employment in the large Victorian London household lasts for many years. The friendship between the two women is tainted by Elizabeth's selfish demands. Yet Wilson learns much from her employer, not least about the vicissitudes of love... Dramatised by Ed Thomason, with Jane Whittenshaw and Kate Buffery.
